Need to look at it from this point of view: rural folk are shrinking minority and nearly incomprehensible to city folk.
Actually rural vs city is 50-50 especially if you add in the burbs.

The number of city folk are shrinking by the tens of millions and has been for decades. Rural has been reclassified by demographers as exurbia and that area has been growing by the tens of millions for years.
