You who know, disabuse me of the notion that it's due to the influence of those friends of small business, the US Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable.
What is it that qualifies Speaker Ryan to assume the same chair as that held by Sam Rayburn and Henry Clay?
And does anyone know if Granny in the wheelchair has hit the bottom yet?

Are you in Colorado?
Ryan was left to support ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE,
open borders, and free trade which the
GOP loves, despite their lies.
Ryan will be the quiet, “secret” dagger in
President Trump’s back -— as he has already
declared.
Because he’s exactly the kind of desperate little pro-gubmint boy who would do, say, and endure anything to get the job.
Good question!
I cannot speak for anyone connected to the US Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable, but I don’t see anything about Paul Ryan that supports the small businessmen in the United States.
I’m saying that from perspective of someone who lived in the trenches with a lot of those people for 35 years. I traveled among them across 11 states for some of that time. Clearly those people in small town America have nothing in common with that snake.
By a huge majority, the vast number of men and women who have survived in small businesses deserve better treatment and encouragement than they have received from anyone in DC.
It is TIME to DownSize DC, Close entire Rogue/Un-Constitutional Departments, including their SWAT Teams.
Paul Ryan will do NOTHING to make that happen.
One of the few groups who have is the NFIB. They are good people.
US Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable? Well from what I know about the US Chamber of Commerce, they are now run by Globalists. As far as the Business Roundtable is concerned, I’m not sure where their allegiance rests.
Nobody else was bold enough to want the job.
He’s a useless turd like McConnell ...
Hopefully Donald Cleaver can keep Paul Haskell in check.
Because we elect crooks and morons to Congress?
Trump needs to work to get rid of this Soros NWO Globalist weasel as quickly as possible, a treacherous snake in the grass and will prove to be much worse than Kasich or McCain ultimately if left unchallenged,
1) Ryan’s district is very safe. It’s his as long as he wants it, ensuring continuity as Speaker.
2) Ryan is Catholic, which seems to be a prerequisite for House Speakers. Only exceptions in decades have been TX Dem Jim Wright’s two yrs. as Speaker before his book scam brought him down and Denny Hastert’s last minute insertion for the Catholic Bob Livingston (LA) after Larry Flynt’s offer of $1M for dirt on any Republican outed him as an adulterer. Before that, Livingston was running for Speaker unopposed.
the problem is not Ryan or McConnell
those two guys are needed..go-betweens.
the problem are Republicans in safe districts
that stood by and did nothing when
George Bush sold us out.
He is Speaker because he majority of Republican Congresscritters voted for him. They voted for him because they agree with him. Simple.
2) Ryan is Catholic, which seems to be a prerequisite for House Speakers.
The district is not particularly safe—Cook rates the district as R+3, and there are only 218 districts that are rated R+2 or worse (24 R +1 or R +2, 9 even, and 185 as Dem leaning). It has been Repbulican held since 1995, but has gone back and forth over the years.
Catholic and Jewish thinkers tend to fall into certain predictable molds—both good and bad—while agnostics, and with an increasing tendency Protestants—tend to be more all over the map. That is my theory behind the Supreme Court makeup, and it may to a lesser extent apply to House members, and particularly leaders, as well.
I tend to think that while there were many people who wanted the job, a good number didn’t think they could hold things together—in many cases even as far as securing the position initially, and some of the others didn’t think that they would be able to do the job. Ryan is a Catholic with some conservative leanings/dressing, but who has adopted a “pragmatic” enough approach that there is a decent size spectrum that is comfortable with him, even though probably no one (including Ryan) is completely happy with him.
Politics as the art of the possible/compromise (or the compromised).
Because a bunch of like phonies voted for him.
Don’t know if Cook’s factors in if or how a district’s voters view having their rep be the Speaker. Newt was our rep during his Speaker years, and we were proud of that. Common sense tells me many WI-District I voters feel the same about Ryan.
Too many RINO’s. Ryan is the worst and has no business being the leader.
That could be the case—and even if it is not, the power of incumbency is very powerful. I grew up in an Oregon District that I was suprised to see is only D +2—I suspect that it has grown more Republican over the years, but since 1975 it has been represented by only two people, both Dems, and one wouldn’t need all the fingers on one hand to count the number of close races in the house during that time—it is entirely possible that none of the races after the initial defeat of the Republican incumbent were closer than 10 points. However, Clinton carried the district by .1%, but DeFazio was re-elected by 21%.
At any rate, Wisconsin District 1 is not, of itself, notably safe.
