Maybe real New York (e.g, outside of the liberal cess pool of Manhattan) could do well, and in fact, they’d do much, much better without being dragged down by the pile of floating sewage currently living on the island.

Sadly, the rest of New York state would not do well without NYC. There is no industry in upstate NY except for prisons and colleges. No more manufacturing jobs. Farming used to be a huge industry, but small farms have been crippled by regulations and taxes. If you are not a huge farm that owns your own elected officials like the owner of Chobani Yogurt, you just cannot make a decent living.

The constituency to which he panders tends to burn things and people, drop things and people, and drop burning things on people.
