This is the saddest Christmas I have ever seen in Venezuela. Admittedly Christmas may be sad for some according to family or health issues, but the country as a while still somehow manages to get into the spirit. But this year the people gave up. They just gave up.
How could it be otherwise? People do not even have enough cash, literally for shopping the Christmas essentials. In Venezuela that would be to build up an Hallaca, the Christmas dish. And even if you had enough banknotes, or a well furbished checking account, there are so many staples that cannot be found or are so far out of reach that many this year will have no hallaca on their plates. And many will simply have little on their plate. Period.
Last week was a frantic obstacle course for yours truly, combining a chimo session for S.O. to buy enough food basics to hold out until January 15 at the very least. Thus I saw Caracas first hand.
Christmas decorations, to begin with, are limited to perfunctory ones in banks and private homes or apartments with any light hanging in front. In fact, in my street only one house has the full gaudy display. NO OTHER neighbor put even a light on the window.
But if you think that my choice of starting with decorations is frivolous, let me tell you that is on purpose, to delay my writing on the other nasty stuff. The lines have been humongous all week. For food, for a few banknotes at the banks. What was worse is that the regime after stealing all the toys from the main Caracas importer has decided to also steal the clothes from EPK, a business on children clothes etc......

Christmas isn’t all about worldly affectations. The Christ part of it isn’t, anyway.
Socialism—fails every time it’s tried. One of life’s few absolutes. But, like night follows day, misery and destruction will inevitably follow socialism /communism.
We were just plucked from the brink ourselves. Terrifying to think just how close we came. We need to study our history to make certain we never get that close sgain. Rabble rousers with keen minds and raw talent won’t always magically appear to bail us out.
If only Santa would give every adult person an AR15 with lots of ammo.

The voters in Venezuela chose poorly. Elections have consequences.
We in the USA are rich beyond belief. Supermarkets, thrifty stores, and so many others full of stuff. Just imagine all those shelves empty.

What happens when you let everyone vote.
Cuba runs their army, won’t be any toppling of the retarded bus driver running the place.
Before this happens in America, the right has to be willing to deal the domestic marxists a crippling death blow while we have the chance.

If the collective protects the liberty and property of the individual, society prospers.

Venezuela should be one of the most bustling nations in Latin America were it not for their commie so-called leaders.
They chose poorly once with Chavez and his first election. As in all communist countries all subsequent elections are fixed. As with all communist countries this error is only corrected at the end of a gun barrel or economic collapse or both.
I lived in worked in Venezuela for two years back in the seventies. When I left Venezuela the price of oil was 20 dollars a barrel in inflation adjusted dollars. Today oil is 50 dollars a barrel. In 1973 the grocery stores were full of anything you wanted to buy. The hospitals and pharmacies were fully stocked. There was a vibrant and expanding middle class. Life was damn good in Venezuela and we had the highest standard of living in South America at the time.
Corruption was rampant in Veneauela. Due to the peoples disgust with the corruption they voted Chavez into office. Chavez was a Marxist and applied Marxist philosophy and economic dogma to Venezuela. As a result Venezuela today is a failed state.
It must be repeated that compared to the oil revenue in 1973 in constant dollars Venezuela is now receiving more income in constant dollars today than in 1973.
The current price of oil did not send Venezuela into economic and political chaos, Maxism did it.
Given the present state of governmental dictatorship that survives only at the point of a gun, it will only be resolved at the point of a gun. When the government no longer has the funds to keep those with the guns loyal their guns will then be turned around and pointed at the government.
As horrid as the conditions are in Venezuela today, I assure you it will be much worse in the future.
The one question in doubt is when it is over will democracy return or military dictatorship return.
A great deal of blood has run in Venezuela over the past 5 years. This blood will be but a small fraction of which that will be shed over the 2 years.
I know the "mostly good people" of Venezuela. I fear for their future sacrifices, pain and most assuredly much death.
And?
People like me warned them.
And they didn’t just ignore us - they told us we were depriving them of their human rights by even suggesting that shouldn’t vote Chavez.
And if new elections were held today and those elections were actually free, 40% would still vote for the very politicians that were starving them.
I love human beings.
You can’t tell them anything.
And they’re the only species on the planet that would rather starve and die than admit they were wrong about something. :)
The same thing is going to happen in this country.
It’s just a matter of time. :)
