Well, one interesting thing is that cats don’t “meow” at each other, instead they have other noises they use among themselves. So unlike a dog’s barking or howling, it is a noise that cats are exclusively using to communicate with humans.

I doubt cats observed human babies and tried to mimic the sound. They were probably just making all sorts of sounds at humans, and the cats that made sounds in the human vocal range tended to get fed more, so they kept doing it.
