Donald Trump Says, Without Specifics, That He Will ‘Work Something Out’ For Dreamers
The Huffington Post Politics ^ | December 7, 2016 | Elise Foley, immigration and politics reporter

President-elect Donald Trump says he’s “going to work something out” with regard to Dreamers, the undocumented young people he promised for his entire campaign to strip of work authorization and protections.

What does that mean, exactly? There were no clues in an interview with Time magazine for its “Person of the Year” coverage, published Wednesday.

“I want Dreamers for our children also,” Trump told Time. “We’re going to work something out. On a humanitarian basis it’s a very tough situation. We’re going to work something out that’s going to make people happy and proud. But that’s a very tough situation.”

The magazine notes that the president-elect did not back away from a vow to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, which President Barack Obama started in 2012 to grant work permits and temporary reprieve to certain young undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. That plan ― and the fact that as president, Trump could have access to the names and addresses of current DACA recipients ― has caused terror within the undocumented community. Thus far, more than 740,000 Dreamers have received DACA....

They should have to join the military for 8 years, or give up voting rights for 50. The branch will be by lottery.

They will then need to pass a citizenship test + pay all fines, like everyone else.

Or they can deport to their own nation, and apply like everyone else. No quickies either.

If they refuse, then they will be barred from working or school in the US, and are subject to deportation permanently.

The DREAM Act is NOT an Act, it never passed Congress

As Judge Hanen pointed out.

If they ARE legalized, what happens next?

We already know from the '86 Amnesty (The Last One Ever, according to Ted Kennedy): they sponsor in the whole family including 3rd cousins so now we have 3 new legal aliens instead of just one.

NO. Their parents are the ones who brought them here, so do we let their parents decide who will be citizens of the United States, not us? Not our laws?

That would be the effect of an Amnesty under the current laws.

If there is to be any accommodation made it has to go through the Congress. And it should include features like:

- "Hispanics" are stripped of their status as a Protected Class.

- Chain immigration is cancelled and we go back to quotas from certain countries as Canada and Australia do.

- Birthright citizenship is restricted to the children of Citizens ONLY.

- Overall immigration is limited to ZERO for the next 20 years and then to 0.1% of the population yearly at most after that. Instead of immigration, how about making it easier for Americans to raise a family?

We all know that some of the kids who were raised here as illegals aren't bad. But the '86 Amnesty proved that kindness led to being taken advantage of, and now we have the State of California being majority Mexican because of the tidal wave of legal and illegal mass immigration. NO ONE would have voted for the '86 Amnesty if that was foreseen as the outcome.

I hope that the action for dreamers is:
1. billing them for the money spent to apprehend, feed, and house them.
2. followed by relocating them to a labor camp to work off their debt before being deported. (and they don’t get out of the labor camp until their debt is paid.)

He's defanging Rahm and the sanctuary city crowd by removing their primary argument and leaving them to defend the criminal element in the illegal immigrant crowd.

Just another means of gathering leverage against his opposition.

Hopefully a free one-way trip to North Korea or Red China.

I think there needs to be a new designation. I think they could let the kids become permanent residents, but not citizens. They would never be able to vote or get welfare.

The only thing that needs to be “worked out” is their route to the border.

I really don’t trust them to be part of the defense of this country unless they can make it through the citizenship process.

I agree with everything else. On the other hand, those who intentionally tried to cross illegally should be permanently disqualified.

“There’s already a HUGE amount of anchor babies.”

The Constitution doesn’t actually say that a child born of foreign parents must be a US citizen. A case can be made that these children are citizens of the same country as their parents. I believe there have been court cases on this. Perhaps a test case is in order.

If two US citizens parent a child in a foreign land the child is a US citizen. Why should it be different here?

Ok, just wait and see. If I’m wrong I’ll come back and apologize to you for being such a downer. I’ve had my hopes up too many times to be let down again. I’m cynical. Of course I live right in the middle of the invasion too.
Oh and by the way....I didn’t make it personal, you did. You’re an ass.

Curious if you have specifics on this. I don’t have a problem with allowing someone to stay who was brought over as a child, grew up here, and has no tie to their home country staying, but it sounds like Obama may have broadened it beyond that?

Dreamers can be under the age of 31 and are supposed to have been here since under the age of 16 and lived here continuously for 5 years. They don’t even have to had attended school. I read reports that some were given permits that didn’t qualify because they didn’t have to give any proof of their claims since they were illegal.
I would say that if they had been here since they were young children, younger than 16, and had proof that they had been in school all the time with school records, that would be better.

I agree with you that there has to be some proof that they were brought here at a young age, and it would be good to know if they were in school.

Our immigration system is a mess. If people who are here illegally are putting their children in public schools, why is that allowed? Why wouldn’t they be deported? Is proof of citizenship not needed when applying for public school?

No, schools can’t ask for proof of citizenship for kids to attend school. It’s against the law. Schools have to take illegals.

Not only that the HHS put out that unaccompanied minor children that have invaded this country in the last few years have a right to an education while they are here awaiting hearings. Some of these guys that claimed to be minors were in fact adults and were attending high schools! The people processing these illegals were told not to question their age.

IF someone is here illegally that would be ‘criminal’... Trump is smart not to chum the sharks... He is putting together a ‘law and order’ administration.

I hope Trump straightens this out. Not even checking their ages? Inexcusable.
