Do we even need cable if we have Roku?
Cool. Thanks!
BFLR ...
I love my Roku. My kids got it for me.
We’ve never used Roku. We’re wanting to ditch cable and are wanting to look at other options. We’ve used Chromecast in the past to stream Netflix and Hulu, but even that only goes so far. What all can you do with Roku?
We’ve not had cable for 9 years. Had a Roku for less than a year. We’ll never need cable again to satisfy our hunger for news and entertainment. Your tastes might not be the same. We have access to view so many channels on Roku and OTA broadcasts why waste a dollar or 100 dollars a month?
Bump
You could mix Sling, Netflix and Amazon Prime, and you can also subscribe to individual prime channels.
Do we even need cable if we have Roku?
Only if you want to watch Pro Football.
Thanks for the info. We have Netflix and Amazon Prime. Not familiar with Sling. Will check into it.
Did you pull the trigger on one yet? Enjoying it?
Does Roku have commercials?
Ah, yes. I remember pro football. Back in the 70s and 80s right? Roger Staubach, Joe Montana, Tony Dorsett, Men Joe Green, et al.
I have cable and a DVR, and I love the DVR, being able to tape shows and watch them later. Excuse what may be a dumb question, but I’m not tech savvy. Can you use a DVR with Roku? Or does Roku eliminate the need for a DVR because you can just call up any program any time? Cable is so expensive, I’m looking for an alternative. But I don’t want to give up the ability to set the DVR for a show and then watch it later, or over and over again. Thanks for any help!
You have WONDERFUL children :)
This is American technology at work. We love ours, too. There is so much offered it would take a lifetime to see EVERYTHING! Especially the old TV shows available.
Love That Bob
The X Files
The Goldbergs
Ozzie and Harriett
Does anyone here remember those?
And the old horror/monster movies from the 50s. So campy -funny and scary at the same time.
We dropped the cable almost two years ago, and we got out first Roku. We’ll NEVER go back to cable. We pay for our internet connection and we pay for Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Plus there are lots of free channels - old movies and tv shows, weather channels, cooking, crafts, religion, political, etc. Even with the internet cost and the three premium channels, it still costs half of what our cable bill used to be. Youtube is free. We watch live broadcasts of Fox News on that. The only drawback is you can’t watch sports live, and some other limitations. The good outweighs the bad though. We have a Roku 3 and love it.
Here is an Amazon review I recently made concerning Roku, all of which is factual:
“I have used Roku devices for years. I was satisfied with them and always attributed buffering during watching to my router and wifi. Recently one of my Roku devices basically stopped working. I had had if for a while and was not too upset. I don’t expect electronic devices to work forever. In the interim before purchasing a new Roku, I used my laptop connected to my tv with an HDMI cable. The laptop loaded instantly and virtually never buffered during a movie. However, it was inconvenient enough that I bought a new Roku. My brand new Roku, on the same network and in the same physical location as my laptop, continuously buffers, sometimes for several minutes and sometimes locks up completely. I now realize that my Roku devices never worked properly. I have totally lost confidence in them.”
In addition to the above, I’ve found it won’t even stream music reliably on the Amazon Music app. I don’t have a problem with that with my ipad, fire, or phone on the same network.
