No doubt this "Progressive media pundit" is confident she knows everything there is to know about gun battles from decades of paying close attention to the 50,000+ Hollywood gun battles she's witnessed.

So her point is obviously, "Hey! Why couldn't this cop have instead aimed his handgun from some distance away - taking into account the extremely high accuracy of the average handgun with its 4-inch long barrel when in the hands of a Hollywood actor - at whichever of the perp's hands/wrists was holding the weapon, to knock it out of his hand and save the perp's life, confident he wouldn't miss and hit one of the 100's of bystanders in the background? Better yet, why didn't he just hit the brandished weapon directly from 100 yards away and spare the perp's hand from damage?"
