YOU ARE STILL CRYING WOLF
Slate Star Codex ^ | NOVEMBER 16, 2016 | SCOTT ALEXANDER

Posted on 12/01/2016 1:21:36 PM PST by conservatism_IS_compassion

in October 2015, I wrote that the picture of Trump as “the white power candidate” and “the first openly white supremacist candidate to have a shot at the Presidency in the modern era” was overblown. I . . . predicted that:

If Trump were the Republican nominee, he could probably count on equal or greater support from minorities as Romney or McCain before him.
Now the votes are in, and Trump got greater support from minorities than Romney or McCain before him . . .

Trump made gains among blacks. He made gains among Latinos. He made gains among Asians. The only major racial group where he didn’t get a gain of greater than 5% was white people. I want to repeat that: the group where Trump’s message resonated least over what we would predict from a generic Republican was the white population . . .

Stop calling Trump voters racist . . . stop calling Trump voters racist – not because none of them are, but because as soon as you give yourself that opportunity, it’s a slippery slope down to “anyone who disagrees with me on anything does so entirely out of raw seething hatred, and my entire outgroup is secret members of the KKK and so I am justified in considering them worthless human trash”. I’m not saying you’re teetering on the edge of that slope. I’m saying you’re way at the bottom, covered by dozens of feet of fallen rocks and snow.

. . . Stop making people suicidal. Stop telling people they’re going to be killed. Stop terrifying children. Stop giving racism free advertising. Stop trying to convince Americans that all the other Americans hate them. Stop. Stop. Stop.

The above is from a #NeverTrump guy. The whole article, of which the above is a mere sampling, is heartily recommended by Scott Adams for the way it utterly deconstructs the “Trump is a racist” meme.

How can you tell if a person is racist? You judge them by their actions.

I have no idea who works at the Carrier plant in Indiana. I would guess President Trump doesn't know them either. What he did know was that they were Americans who wanted to keep their jobs. That's it. So, the American President-Elect went to work for Americans.

Americans.

Race didn't play into it. His actions tell you he cares about his fellow Americans. I am hopeful that we will see much, much more of this.

Scott Adams’ latest blog post has an interesting take on the Ford/Carrier moves.

How can you tell if a person is racist? You judge them by their actions.
If you read the whole article I posted, you will see a full exposition of the fatuous nature of the “Trump is racist” meme. Fairly long article, not much left of his target by the time he is finished with it.

Jobs in America benefit Americans. It’s that simple. Maybe even some liberals can understand that.

All this stuff about how he’s “the candidate of the KKK” and “the vanguard of a new white supremacist movement” is made up. It’s a catastrophic distraction from the dozens of other undeniable problems with Trump that could have convinced voters to abandon him.

That it came to dominate the election cycle should be considered a horrifying indictment of our political discourse, in the same way that it would be a horrifying indictment of our political discourse if the entire Republican campaign had been based around the theory that Hillary Clinton was a secret Satanist.

Now there is a missed opportunity.

We certainly should have labeled Hillary a closet Satanist.

After all who in the world defends child sacrifice more than Hillary Rotten Clinton.

And the largest percentage of those children are Black. So who is the racist in this contest?

Or maybe it is that Satan prefers Black babies

his unilateralism threatens aid to developing countries, one of the most effective ways we currently help other people.

Oh really?

We have been helping developing nations for at least 70 years.

How many of those developing countries have emerged out of the developing nation class?

I can think of none. North Korea maybe but I don’t consider that because of aid but because of most favored nation status and that we basically occupied North Korea for 50 years.

Mostly what aid does is prop up despotic and socialist governments.

Minorities are catching on to the fifty-plus years of lies from the left about conservatives and Republicans.

Days ago Scott Adams - who clued me in on the article I posted in this thread - announced that the New York Times had threatened to dox “Scott Alexander,” who is a psychiatrist posting under a pseudonym.

The impact of such being catastrophic to his clients and himself, this is motivated “Scott Alexander” to remove his entire blog history from the internet.

Scott Adams’ reaction is to characterize the NYT as “evil.” Welcome to reality, Mr. Adams . . .
