Goldman Sachs poised for return to power in Trump White House

NEW YORK — Government Sachs is returning to Washington.

After a decade in the wilderness, Wall Street’s most powerful firm, Goldman Sachs, is dominating the early days of the incoming Trump administration. The newly picked Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, spent 17 years at Goldman. Trump’s top incoming White House adviser, Steve Bannon, spent his early career at the bank. So did Anthony Scaramucci, one of Trump’s top transition advisers.

Goldman’s president, Gary Cohn, spent an hour schmoozing with President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday and could be up for an administration job, possibly as director of the Office of Management and Budget, people close to Cohn and the transition said. Cohn, a long-time commodities trader, is friendly with Trump’s powerful son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

It’s a stunning reversal of fortune for Goldman, a long-time Washington power that fell out of favor following the financial crisis. CEO Lloyd Blankfein got hauled before Congress along with other Wall Street executives to account for their behavior. And Trump, who ran as a populist and bashed Wall Street on the campaign trail, featured Blankfein as a shady and dangerous character in his final campaign ad.

Rolling Stone’s Matt Taibbi famously labeled Goldman the “great Vampire Squid” on the face of America.

Had Hillary Clinton won the White House, Goldman faced a virtual lock-out from Washington with Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders poised to block and major picks from the bank or any other firm on Wall Street.

Now Goldman, whose proximity to the levers of power dates to the early 20th Century and the creation of the Federal Reserve, stands to return to a level of influence unmatched by any other company in America. And Warren and her allies are left throwing darts from the sidelines.

Mnuchin has been working for the Trump campaign for over a year. Nothing here is new.

Cruz was criticized because he got personal loans from GS bellow market rate and tried to hide it. I don’t recall any criticism of his wife.

“LOL, they all left GS years ago. Should they be banned for life?

I guess some were expecting that Trump would pick Joe the plumber as treasury secretary, instead of someone with actual experience.”

Obama had something like over 40 Goldman appointees, so a couple of ex-Goldman appointments doesn’t concern me. Word is they’re in complete agreement with Trump’s policies. If Trump gets anywhere close to Obama’s numbers then I’ll worry, especially if they’re the Rubin, Corzine types.

I agree about heidi. She and ted were dogged here. On another thread it is surreal to see people talk about how money doesnt matter anymore to the ceo of GS. GS is the evil empire around here from so many posters.....but now...

It is surreal to me.

My take on this contretemps is that there are many willfully low information posters regarding past posts vis-a-vis Goldman Sachs - Where Senator Cruz and his wife were treated with MUCH dis-respect

working or having worked for Goldman Sachs would indicate a very highly motivated individual as far as I am concerned.

I’m in an ongoing debate with a liberal family member who believes Trump is just more of the same old same old. She recently asked me a question to which I offered what I believe to be a reasonable answer.
QUESTION: “It’s a Goldman Reunion in Trump’s White House. Is that what you voted for?”
ANSWER:
WE voted for COMPETENCE in government, a commodity SORELY and CONSPICUOUSLY absent from the obozo/jarrett junta! I LIKE Bannon and nearly all his ideas. We’ll have to wait to see about the others. But more f**king Marxist community organizers would have taken us over the edge into a bottomless pit from which it would require a civil war to return.
Where do we get people who understand the currently f**ked up, Marxist central bank , fiat currency financial system? Sadly, from the ranks of those who have mucked about in it in the PRIVATE SECTOR.
That said, should any of those folks, once installed and operating, be found to be committing fraud, enriching themselves, their cronies and friends – as was the MO for the Democrat candidate – trust me when I tell you that IF the same folks who put Trump in office and are now screaming for Hillary’s scalp find themselves being F**KED OVER AGAIN, they will turn on Trump and HIS crew before you can say “pitchforks, tar and feathers”.
And, unlike obozo’s mendacious and malevolent minions, Jeff Sessions would NOT allow himself to be “Lynched” (in BOTH meanings of that word) for turning a blind eye to that corruption.
What does concern me, however, is that the departing crew of criminals, understanding that obozo’s and his criminal associates’ skin color immunized them from closer scrutiny or removal for CLEAR ACTS OF TREASON, were so brazen and in our faces that it may take us some time to see it among the new guys!
But should it come to that, WE WILL ULTIMATELY SEE IT AND ACT IF NECESSARY!
