Also the Balaclava after the city of Balaclava in the Crimea. Very popular in WW2 England - a wool head covering with a cut out for the facial parts, I wore one myself, favored by small boys mainly. Unfortunately today it seems to be adopted by terrorists as a disguise.

I remember a comment said to be made by a French general in eloquent language as he saw the debacle.

It is magnificent, but it is not war. (Translated).
