The presidential race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton is a dead heat in Virginia Beach, according to a new poll.
The cellphone and landline survey of likely voters in the states largest city found that Clinton, a Democrat, and Trump, a Republican, each were favored by 38 percent, and Libertarian Gary Johnson by 11 percent. Six percent wanted someone else and 7 percent were undecided or didnt know.
The Oct. 1-6 poll was sponsored by The Virginian-Pilot, WVEC-TV, and Christopher Newport University and was conducted before Fridays revelation of Trumps denigrating comments about women in a 2005 Access Hollywood video.
The close race is in keeping with the past two presidential elections where the final vote count was tight.
Although President Barack Obama won Virginia and was the top vote-getter in South Hampton Roads in the 2008 and 2012 elections, he finished second in Virginia Beach both times.
Sen. John McCain of Arizona won 50 percent of the citys vote as the GOP nominee in 2008, compared to Obamas 49 percent. Four years later, Republican businessman Mitt Romney collected 50 percent compared to Obamas 48 percent.
Clinton and Trump finished on top in Virginia Beach during the March 1 presidential primary. Clinton won 63 percent of the citys vote in the Democrats three-person primary and Trump collected almost 35 percent in a crowded 13-candidate GOP race.
Among the voters interviewed for the new poll was retired Navy veteran Don Adams. He said he supports Trump primarily because he doesnt want another Clinton elected to the presidency.
I would probably not be for her no matter who is running, said Adams, who added he doesnt think Trump is a particularly good candidate. I wish that we had somebody else but were stuck with him.
Speaking of the 2005 video, Adams said, I think its disgusting, and unfortunately its not as disgusting as Hillary.
Survey participant Anne Cooper, who wants Clinton in the White House, said she considers the former secretary of state to be a far superior and more honest candidate than Trump.
Clinton worked hard to get where she is, said the 86-year-old retired third-grade teacher. Shes worked for families, for children, for the middle class. ... Theres a lot of men who just dont want a woman president. They just want to stuff the genie back in the bottle. They cant. The survey found some differences among voters based on gender and race. Female and black voters tended to support Clinton, while most men and whites favored Trump.
The poll of 706 voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
Which way does VA Beach usually vote?
I don't buy that for a moment, and it certainly doesn't apply to the despicable Hillary. Sure, there are some men in that category, but a decent and reasonably qualified woman, of whom there are many (although the best of then would be reluctant to run, as would men), would get male votes, no problem. Elected female members of congress and governors are proof of that.
oct 1 through 6?!! It’s the 11th lol
Pre tape and Pre debate.
VA Beach used to be R stronghold. Still leans R.
They’ve already started counting votes? Then why the hell does it take so long to announce the winners on election night?
Why is it so close?
We’ve been overrun with northeast liberals and illegal aliens.
This used to be a reliably Republican state for Presidential elections.
By supporting the baby killers and butchers at "planned parenthood"? This woman is freakier than all those crazy clowns running around out there. Maybe she's one of them.
If there were an American Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meir, Indira Gandhi or Park Geun-hye I’d enthusiastically get behind them. But Hillary is more like Ma Barker or Ulrike Meinhof.
I grew up there and it used to be heavily republican and now 50/50 is the best it can do. I don’t really understand it because there are tons of military there. Yes, I know they all don’t vote in Va. Beach, but many do and many retire there. Go figure.
So, good news is it’s a tie, bad news is Trump for now is about 10 points behind Minion?
(Not that I believe polls)

Actually Romney won Virginia Beach by 2.5% but with 50.6% so about on pace with 2012

but....
In Axiom battleground poll Loudoun County went for Obama in 2012 by 4.5% but in last poll Clinton showed ahead by 2%.

Show me the 2000.
I could care less about the last two elections with a black candidate in S Va .
Let’s stop the media from using an irrelevant voting patterns from 2008 or 2012.
McCain quit campaigning in 2008 and took the campaign cash because he could and gave up.
3912 ,Romney was a snobby stiff no one liked.
So, Trump doing better there?
BTW, WHO KNOWS MAINE?
I’m seeing early/absentee vote numbers on a site and they don’t look good for ME-2, but I don’t know ME voting patterns.
So, basically, if Trump wins indies by 3%, he beats Romney in VA Beach?
I can tell you my daughter-in-law and her husband, in VB will be voting for hillary. Hate that they are negating our votes. They have far more money than sense, that is for sure.
No, she is Madame Mao, the White Bone Demon.
How many election year polls are going on simultaneously? Does anybody know?
I presume that the corrupt media is bragging only about the polls that make Hillary look good.
“Theres a lot of men who just dont want a woman president.”
This is total and complete b.s. This is what ‘progressives’ want to think. The reality is that men recognize women who have no empathy, no warmth, and are so driven by ambition and narcissism that they will do almost ANYTHING to achieve what they want. Why would anyone, male or female, support the ambitions of such a person? Using the same criteria, why would anyone support the ambitions of a man with the same characteristics? It’s not about gender. It’s about character.
