The Islamic State is digging a moat around its biggest stronghold in Iraq, Mosul, in preparation for an expected attack from the Iraqi army and its U.S. partners, and is using oil tankers to construct a wall around the city, which it would set on fire if the Iraqi army gets too close, according to Mosul residents.
The organization is also digging tunnels underneath the city as a means of stopping the armys advance, shutting down some neighborhoods, and setting bombs. The attack on the city, which ISIS captured two years ago, is planned for next month. It would mark a major turning point in the fight with ISIS, after the Iraqi army regained control of some key ex-ISIS territories.
Al Jazeera quoted the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Iraqi-U.S. coalition general Joe Dunford that We assess today that the Iraqis will have in early October all the forces marshalled, trained, fielded, equipped that are necessary for operations in Mosul.

Obama’s Last Stand
Just in time to declare a great Obama victory and give Hillary a bump in the US election.
The drone footage of the BLEVE should be epic!
The Islamaginot Line.
And how do they know we will attack? Because we announced it. Please Lord help gets these idiots out of office.

We assessed today the Iraqis will have in early October all the forces marshaled, trained, fielded and equipped that are necessary for operations in Mosul, he said at the Air Force Assn. conference in National Harbor, Md.
If they set the tankers on fire, just wait until the fires go out.
Mosul. What a prize!
Well played wit!
RE: “The Islamaginot Line.”
I am not a military genius, but isn’t one way to win a war is to cut off supplies to the enemy? Where is ISIS getting funds to wage war?
With air superiority, how are supplies reaching Monsul?
Now it looks like these clowns in the White Mosque are revisiting this SNL skit for real...
Does this keep us from bombing inside the circle? I don’t get it. Are we allowed to bomb the tankers and let them burn for a week or so and then go in? I still don’t get it......................................................................Oh, I think I get it now. Obama won’t bomb oil tankers due to global climate change! They win. How did they figure this out? /sarc
They say the falafel in Mosul is to die for....And many will.
Its insanity
a Flight of B52s should bomb the place to perdition. ANd wait for any survivors to emerge and bring in a few dozen daisy cutters.
End of game!
My first thoughts.
Apparently the people Obama has in charge never heard the old saying from WW II Loose Lips Sink Ships
These idiots willingly give up the advantage of surprise. Why not just send ISIS a copy of our battle plans and rules of engagement?
These fools will cost many thousands of extra casualties.
I bet those tankers would blow up real good.
A couple of MOABs from on high and it’s over.
But we don’t fight to win anymore. We fight for show and try not to kill anybody while doing it.
We’ve announced the attack in order to thin the Jihadi ranks, particularly officers.
The next couple of weeks will be full of forced errors on the Jihadi’s part.
Could get funny at times.
If all you want to do is take the city it makes sense.
But why would you not want to kill or capture as many of the ISIS officers and men as possible?
The giving away the element of surprise still makes no sense.
If you give the Jihadi the chance to flee the city they will just form up elsewhere and kill and maim more people. Perhaps you can kill or capture a few on the road. But I am of the opinion that kill them in Mosul while you have the chance is the best strategy.
Blitzkrieg is still a great tactic. Hit them fast and hard before they can react.
