To: vigilence

Pilot is his long term goal. But he has to complete a 4 year degree. He’s starting off enlisted. When he’s done with training he will revert to part time reserves and attend college full time. GI bill plus SC life scholarship will cover everything.

Good for him, you should be very proud! I know things have changed since I was in, 68-72, but back then some enlisted guys were being sent to Officer Candidate School bypassing the Academy and traditional Bachelors degree schools. Sounds like he’s on top of things and will go far. Congrats!!!

I am not sure the Navy still has the program but in the late 1960’s a friend of my enlisted for four years. After about a year he was sent to Purdue University to study nuclear engineering. During the time he earned rank and all of his expenses were paid for. After graduation he was commissioned as an ensign. I don’t recall if he served on nuclear subs or ships but he stayed in for fifteen more years and retired after 20 years.
