If the Left has its way, writing an article like this one will soon be a crime. I also wonder why a teacher can’t call the police and file assault charges against students who directly attack them, but, I suppose, that is a career ending move.

Yes, the schools receive federal funds for each student that "attends"; if they've been suspended/expelled those funds dry up.

Another reason to abolish the Dept. of Education.

You are likely right. If a teacher doesn’t have tenure, he or she wouldn’t be rehired for the next year. Some schools insist that anything that happens at school has to be handled through the administration, ie. principal or superintendent. Calling the cops could be considered a firing offense even for a tenured teacher. If not, it would begin the process of making life in the school unbearable for the ‘offending’ teacher. The worst assignments in classes, etc. etc. In many districts reporting an off campus assault by a student might end a career.
