The reason news sites are killing off comment sections is two-fold. One, it is usually where you get the bits of the news story our betters edited out in order to maintain the narrative. The "Minnesota man" in the story is identified in the comments as Jorge Gonzalez, an illegal from Guadalajara. It's where the "suspect wearing a red shirt" is identified as a black guy named T'Q'ull Ferguson with a Facebook page full of pics of him holding a handgun and a bong. The comment sections have become a leak in the system.

I happen to agree.If you are paying for the web site,you pay for the space those comments are taking up..My view is,if you agree with me,great..If not,who needs you..I won’t pay for the rantings of lunatics....That’s why youtube finally went commercial..With everybody using youtube ,Google was paying for everyone to use that space and they were losing money on it...
I’ve noticed this too.
And I’ve noticed some news sites, will have comments open for some stories, but not for others.
One recent story I saw on a site regarding transgendered school bathrooms, for example, didn’t allow for comments. But other stories on that site were available for comments.
It’s as if they are afraid of the types of comments they will get from the public, so they decide to shut down debate.

Actually, the comments themselves are considered web content.
Web content is what drives the website ratings.
If they decide to remove comments, they are only hurting themselves.
Democrats,liberals and feminists only have one speed when debating about anything....Raving lunatics...Have you read their comments about CONSERVATIVE books on Amazon???.They never read the book,just ramble on how horrendous it is and it will turn everyone into a Nazi,if they read it....
Some newspaper sites have done away their forums as well.

The more they get rid of comments sections (or try to force people to use Facebook] the more popular sites like this one will be.
There will be new blogs and news aggregation sites that allow comments because people want to communicate with each other about the events of the day.
They can’t stop it, but they are stupid enough to think they can.
I’ve seen them do that and then people go right ahead and comment about whatever they want on the ones open for comment.
They think they are being sly but they aren’t.
Limbaugh once stated that when he ran numbers, less than .01% of radio listeners called in, and that the perception that taking a lot of calls improved ratings was bull. That's why he clearly states that the reason for calls is to make the host look good. Web sites are similar, that a few readers make hundreds of comments, and most make none. Political campaigns have paid flying monkeys that make posts on web sites.
I noticed a couple of years ago that news articles that were clearly paid for by governmental agencies to push an agenda didn't allow comments. Most obvious was the ones trying to outlaw vaping.
There is no free press!

The Minneapolis, Minnesota paper Star & Tribune blocks comments all the time. They will edit comments too if they do not agree with want the paper wants to say is the truth when the commenters can clearly see thru the BS and say so. The paper then deletes the comments and leaves in the happy talk.
I first noticed it big time when Ted Kennedy died and there were several hundred people commenting on what trash he was. The next morning they were gone and replaced by positive comments about him.

Of course we know sites, including this one, will remove messages which contain profanity, or are patently offensive, threatening, or inciting violence.
But some sites have moved far beyond that concept, and are censoring opinions which don’t agree to their views.
But that defeats the whole purpose of message boards, and sharing opinions, in my opinion. They want to shut down debate entirely.
Ya I’ve noticed that too. What’s up with some sites requiring you to use Facebook to comment? What if you don’t have a Facebook account? What if you don’t want a Facebook account? You have to establish one just to comment on news stories? What’s up with that?
You're comparing apples and oranges.
By definition, access to Limbaugh's radio show is limited. He has what, one call screener with an overly burdensome list of screening questions, from what I understand.
"Print" media is different. I can sympathize with editing out the "disguised ads as comments", though. (Limbaugh sleazes in ads attempting to pass for commentary, too...)
I cease reading from sites which I have identified as not
providing comment sections. I also mock both those sites and idiots who try to hold them up as sources of accurate information.
