There's plenty of other reasons to open carry, especially when you live in bigger cities or more liberal areas. I've had maybe 20 or so people comment on it, all positively. (One crazy dude even gave me a free copy of his 9/11 truther dvd...) The only time I've felt odd (but this was fun!) was walking around Barton Springs with the old girlfriend.
