On Wednesday night, South Park will be returning for its 20th season. The season premiere will feature a song that makes fun of San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick and the Black Lives Matter supporters who have rallied behind him.
The Comedy Central animated series is always quick to give its take on the highly-controversial topics of society. The 30-second promo for the upcoming season shows the citizens of South Park singing a humorously different version of the National Anthem.
The new lyrics are...
Colin Kaepernick is great
Cops are pigs, cops are pigs
Wait, someone just took my stuff, I need to call the cops
Oh no, I just said cops are pigs
Who's gonna help me get my stuff?
Why did I listen to Colin Kaepernick
He's not even any good
Oh, I just got all my stuff back
Cops are pigs again, cops are pigs
Colin Kaepernick's a good backup.
On Monday night, the promo was released to coincide with the kickoff of the San Francisco 49ers' Monday Night Football game. During the playing of the "Star-Spangled Banner," Kaepernick continued his protest by refusing to stand once again.
The media firestorm was set off when Kaepernick decided to stay seated during the National Anthem prior to a pre-season game in August.
The backup QB told the media, "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." He continued, "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way."
After Kaepernick's initial protest, he has since been joined by his teammate Eric Reid to kneel during the National Anthem. Several other players across the league have also refused to stand, including four Miami dolphins players: Arian Foster, Jelani Jenkins, Michael Thomas, and Kenny Stills.
Do you think South Park's Colin Kaepernick diss was funny or did it cross the line?
Is Tom Cruse still in the closet?
:)
Glad to see Kaepernick on the bench last night. Duane Gabbert did a great job scoring 4 TDs and running for first downs multiple times. I just wish the niners would fire Kaepernick and refuse to pay him on the basis of his behavior hurting the team financially. He may have the right to protest, but not while in uniform and on company time. There has to be a clause in his contract to that effect.
Used to be moral clauses that restricted any bad press, so couldn’t do it on his own time either. Too bad in today’s world anything goes.
...he’s small enuff
A timely and well earned mocking for a not very bright fellow.
