They used to cull dogs at my childhood deer camp near Vicksburg Mississippi off Steele Bayou

Some were runaway hounds and others were abandoned dogs

I never cared much for shooting them

I put down one of my dogs two years ago....myself.....ill never do that agains think of CT I think of litchfield county ....not wild dog pack territory

When I lived in Manhattan I had friends there at Washington depot who lived in a barn

When I shot a lot, I used the standard issue from the armorer.

I used 30w motor oil for years. I now use Remoil or 3n1, less messy and seems to work fine.

I spend a lot of time in far north east PA. It’s a woodsy area where black bear are common and among the locals, bear spray is the ubiquitous first line of defense. It’s small to carry, effective and easy to rapidly discharge. It’s also non-lethal to the animal which depending on your local laws may save you a lot of time and aggravation with the police and possibly the courts.

Now if you have the cool aplomb of an astronaut and can put 3+ rounds on target in the few seconds you will have while being charged by a large creature that wants to eat you, you could do worse than a Glock 20 sf 10mm. You’ll have higher cap than with a revolver and Buffalo Bore makes a hard cast 220 gr. round that will deliver 1,200 fps. IMHO, not a bad second line of defense.
