"Pure conservative"

Posted on 08/28/2016 9:00:04 PM PDT by stolinsky

McCain wasn't a pure conservative, so we got Obama. Romney wasn't a pure conservative, so we got Obama again. Now we're hearing that Trump isn't a pure conservative. As a result, are we going to be stuck with Hillary for four years--and with her Supreme Court nominees for decades?

After Pearl Harbor, we fired the admiral and general in charge in Hawaii. But we kept the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington for a few months. He was a well-liked man known for mentoring young officers. But soon he was replaced by Admiral King. He was known to be abrasive and was feared by young officers. His own daughter said he was the most even-tempered officer in the Navy--always in a rage. But he had the reputation of getting thing done. He did. He remained at the head of our Navy through the victorious conclusion of the war. When he took over in Washington, he is said to have remarked, "When they get into trouble, the send for us SOBs"

His philosophy of leadership could be summed up by this story: When asked what his policy toward the press would be, he replied, "Tell them nothing. When the war is over, tell them who won."

Is Trump that kind of SOB? He very well might be. Is he a "pure conservative"? I don't care.

McQueeg and Willard were never in it to win it, just to stop Conservative opposition to Zero. They were there to serve as ringers. Trump is in it to win it.

Well to be fair, Romney is a classical Massachusetts liberal.

Why did everyone reject Ted Cruz? I know people are p*ssed at him because of his not endorsing Trump, but prior to that, there was little support here.

I thought the guy was 100% true conservative, and Christian. And he knew the Constitution, history and the issues inside out. He could have run circles around Hillary in the upcoming debates.

Because he is a total fraud, a liar, and a pure egomaniac.

He is nothing more than a ladder climber.

And on top of all of that, he is quite possibly the most unlikable person in this country next to Hillary Clinton.

And he couldn’t run circles around anyone in a debate.

Canadian born, not eligible to the office.

Had a strange voice, stranger look, and people just didn’t like him.

As an attorney, he knew he was not eligible. But he ran anyway. How can you trust a man like that?

FWIW, I liked a lot of what he said and represented. He could be a good force in our government or for that matter, outside of it.

All Trump has to do is follow his word to build the wall, ship the illegals out and send the refugees from Syria back home. Illegals are not going to self deport via the rule of law, as we have seen over and over again. To say that is to lie. They have to be removed.

“Why did everyone reject Ted Cruz?”

Because he’s a phony. /Holden Caulfield

Turns out he’s a moral leper without a principle, a vertebra, or a testicle to his name.

Not being a "pure" conservative is one thing.

McCain is pure scum!

I was intrigued by Cruz. I wasn’t sure he was eligible. When he locked up his records, his eligibility immediately became questionable in my mind. That was the end of that.

Sending “Voter Violations” notices to potential voters (and their neighbors) in Iowa.....his people saying Ben Carson dropped out of the race before the Iowa caucus when Carson had not.....blaming Trump supporters for the Soros-funded riot in Chicago which caused a Trump rally to be cancelled....calling Trump supporters “uneducated” and “uniformed”....his campaign manager buying 16-year old modeling photos of Melania and distributing them in Utah before the primary; just a few things which come to mind.

How do we know that these commenters are not Leftists?

Look, a pure conservative was not electable in the Republican Party nor in the general electorate.

Republicans lost in 2008 and 2012 because the working class didn’t turn out to vote.

Trump is not an SOB - he is trained in the oratory method of the ancient Roman orator and legal consul Cicero. Now he has switched to the softer oratory of Augustus.

Cruz had a ton of support here. My family gave over double to Cruz than we have to Trump for the presidential race.

Jim was initially only Cruz, but after Trump started speaking out on immigration and the rest, he softened to Cruz and Trump.

That was too much for many Cruzers, who could not understand how any conservative could support Trump.

There are no pure conservatives in the GOP anyway. They are all liars, protectors of turf, feeders at the trough.

They aren’t in it for us, they are in it for them.

Correct.

And that was aside from their transparent masquerade as conservatives.

He is a liar. He ran around for months saying Donald supports Obamacare, Donald wants single-payer, socialized healthcare for every American, Donald calls for violence at all his rallies, Donald told the New York Times he will not build a wall,Donald said he intends to appoint his liberal sister to the Supreme Court, etc.

>>>He could have run circles around Hillary in the upcoming debates<<<

Could be, but he couldn’t even run circles around 16 other Republicans at the Primary Debates.

He had to defend his wanting to increase H1-B Visas by 500%, his role in allowing Bills to go the floor rather than being stopped in Committee and his lukewarm Immigration stance including him chiding Trump for wanting to get rid of the Anchor Baby “loophole” claiming it required a Constitutional Amendment which it does not.

He made numerous errors in Judgment during his Campaign, but his Speech at the RNC Convention was the nail in the Coffin for people thinking he should have been the Nominee.

BTW - I’m a former Cruzer.

Obama was elected because Blacks came out in record numbers to vote for him. I am not a big fan of McCain. I have voted third party in the past and am particularly proud of the fact that I never voted for George W. Bush.

However, even I voted for McCain over Obama.

I know it's just one data point, but I think a lot of conservatives either held their noses and voted for McCain, or deluded themselves and cast a vote for Palin, as if she was the top of the ticket.

Romney's loss was Romney's fault. George Allen might have been president but for his single 'Macaca' gaff from which he could never recover. Perry had his problem remembering which three departments he would eliminate. It was a death blow. Romney had his 47% remark which was a self-inflicted fatal knife wound.

No amount of cajoling, hectoring, threatening, shaming, damning or bribing of true conservatives was going to get us to vote for that turd. And he still would have lost even if we had voted for him.

My feeling is that Trump will win ESPECIALLY if everyone votes for the person that they most want to see in the Whitehouse. Trump, like Reagan, speaks to constituencies that no other Republican can speak to. It will be OK for Trump if "true conservatives" vote for third parties or write in "Ronald Reagan" or choose not to vote.

Trump will more than make up for that loss with more Black, Latino, Progressive, etc. votes.

He will also be helped by Jill Stein and Gary the fake Libertarian's candidacies.

So stop worrying. Stop harassing the true believers. Let them vote their consciences and we'll all welcome Trump when he swears on the Bible in January.

And Cruz said, “Donald’s mother was born in Scotland.” Fiendishly omitting the fact that Donald’s mother became a U.S. citizen many years before Donald was born.

Cruz also pulled the old “I’m too busy dealing with issues the American people care about.”

WITH THOSE SLEAZY NON-ANSWERS, CRUZ CONVINCED ME HE’S AN ILLEGAL ALIEN.

Canadian-born, therefore not eligible. And I know he can't help it, but he just looks and sounds odd. Trump's hair is goofy, and he knows it and owns it. Cruz is strange in an unlikable way.

He's supposedly a great constitutionalist, and yet ran for POTUS knowing he is ineligible by birth -- got greedy. He pandered too much to what he thought sounded the most authentically conservative. Conservatives are big fans of states' rights, yes? So he goes and says that securing the border is a states' issue and the states along the border should be responsible for it! Nice try Ted.

Further, he is supposedly a great debater. I thought he was. But Trump whipped him in the primary debates. Wrung him and hung him out to dry. If Cruz can't out-debate Trump, he probably isn't that great of a debater.

I could go on, but those are issues off the top of my head. Out of everyone running, I wouldn't trust anyone more on the issues of life, religious freedom, and the 2nd Amendment...Admittedly, these are the most important things. But without effectively securing the border and making the GOP competitive in more states, we will lose on these issues and every other issue. Trump can do those things, and will, God willing, be sufficient on life, freedom and 2A.

Praying that Trump wins, in which case one of those vacant SCOTUS seats will hopefully go to Cruz, because he can do the most good on the issues he is best at, for much longer than were he in the White House.
