Agreed, my Mossberg is beside my bed. Though my first two shells are 7/8 Oz slugs. I figure if I’m shooting at an intruder, I’ll be shooting past my dog that’ll be mauling him. Don’t want to hit her with stray shot. After the first shot though, I expect the dog to run for the hills.:-) Next two are #1 buck. There’s also a full size 1911 on the nightstand. Its nice to have choices. Wife has my AR on her side...

I’m looking into a pistol build project. Most of the shorter barrels I’ve come across are all 9mm. Any idea where I can find 6-6.5 in 300 blackout? Thanks for any input.

A few years ago, I won one in a raffle. When it was presented to me, I asked if anyone would accept it as a gift. People thought I was nut and asked why I was giving it away. My response was, "It's a gimmick for the newbie, wannabe commandos."

I wouldn't characterize it as a gimmick - the Judge is a utility gun. Sort of a more compact version of the old Savage rifle-over-shotgun combo rigs. It does seem to attract neophyte shooters, though - and a .410 / .45 Long Colt handgun isn't exactly a friendly starter piece.

I chose the #4 shot based on testing we did with the firearms training unit at my former PD. #4 shot does not over-penetrate and I have children in the house. The spread pattern on my Remington and Mossberg is less than a foot at 10 yards - that spread actually makes it more effective when shooting center mass. The shotgun is always my choice for close in defense (25yds or less) and it is not nearly as appreciated as it should be by the general public. Magnum slugs are the duty load for my work shotgun. You also have the added psychological impact and punctuation of “get out of my house” with the unmistakable racking action.

The business end of a shotgun is deafeningly loud and it will stun you without hearing protection (definitely causes hearing loss) inside a building. I constantly tell my wife to grab the shotgun even though she does not like to shoot it (she can though). Even if she somehow missed I doubt an intruder would hang around. Our German Shepherd would provide the distraction and always notifies us when someone comes up the driveway or she hears any sounds at the doors.

It is not really a new gun. Back in the late 1960s one of the gun magazines had an article about a gunsmith who took two 1917 Colt pistols, cut the frames and cylinders and silver soldered them back together as on pistol that would fire the .410. He even registered it with the ATF as were the rules back then.

As far as I am concerned, he took two perfectly good 1917 pistols and ruined them, but back then 1917 pistols were flooding the market before 1968.

The shortest 300 Blackout pistol barrel I've ever come across was 8 inches.

What is your definition of a kill shot?.....I have no definition that term. A’good’ shot is whatever stops the perps action; dead, crippled, hurt, blinded or scared shitless.

It’s been my experience that when you practice with a handgun a 50 or 100 yards, head shots at 15 are much easier. A head shot is what I consider a kill shot.
