Greene split his forces when being followed by Cornwallis through the Carolinas. Pretty interesting documentary on AHC network, formerly the Military Channel a few weeks back.

It actually shamed me about my ignorance about the Revolution.

80 years apart. Lee split his force and destroyed Hookers army at Chancellorsville. Greene split his army repeatedly and won victories in South Carolina during the revolution.
