My town has had 2 Jewish holidays off since the 70s——apparently Baltimore doesn’t, so they made the right

You would be wrong about that. We’ve all had Jewish days off for ages...and Baltimore Co. has a heavy Jewish pop. I’d say more than Moslems are now.
Thus the real reason for having days off - not to “recognize” or “honor”, but because too many people would not show up. It’s a practical thing.
