As a lifelong liberal until just over a year ago, there are absolutely no grounds for attacking Donald Trump as a "racist" or a "homophobe." Trump is called these names for one and only one reason: he represents, in both the eyes of his supporters and his detractors, that population segment comprised of white Americans of European (mostly northwestern European and Protestant) lineage. In the eyes of the elite, this population segment represents all that is savage, backward, unenlightened, and "evil" in the world. Anyone who claims to represent these people, or who is seen as representing these people, will always be labeled as "nazis," racists, "homophobes," etc. for that reason and that reason alone.

The whole issue of racism and "homophobia" is pure hooey. Liberals support "homophobic" moslems even against (unfortunately) homophilic Israel. Israel is a "redneck nation" and thus on the "wrong side of history," therefore it is homophobic even though it's homophilic.

Meanwhile, American conservatives who fight like cornered animals against homosexuality and the "enlightenment" philosophy attack moslems for being "homophobic." They suddenly decide that maybe homosexuality isn't so bad; maybe islam is worse. Yet the "pro-homosexual" liberals attack them and defend homophobic islam.

This whole business isn't about racism, homophobia, or whatever. It's merely one side (perceived as on the "wrong side of history") vs. another (on the "right side of history"). Members on both groups change positions like a chameleon on every issue; the only constant is that they hate each other.

In the 1890s American rural heartland Bible-thumpers were socialists who wanted an income tax, to nationalize the railroads, currency inflation, direct election of senators, and the abolition of the electoral college. The coastal elite opposed them with a passion, supporting instead the most naked and atheistic social Darwinism (as exemplified by Herbert Spencer and Robert Green Ingersoll). Were we to wake up tomorrow and find that the Bible Belt had returned to all these left wing positions and was again rich capitalists, you'd find that the coastal elites who today demand socialism would be right back to social Darwinism again and calling their heartland opponents "Jacobins."

I also guarantee that if every reactionary Bible-Belt Fundamentalist were to recite the "shahada" and convert to islam, you'd find that the same coastal elites who today put moslems on a pedestal would suddenly find them the crudest, most violent, and least civilized people on earth.

This struggle is about ideas, but not the ideas most people think. It isn't about any one constant position on any issue; it's the idea of enlightened us vs. awful them. And that's all it ever was. Unfortunately.

"I’m not part of the Clinton campaign,” said Blow. “I’m a black man in America. And I know a bigot when I see a bigot. ... "

Based on decades of evidence, the difference between being a published 'house' columnist in the NY Times and a member of the Clinton campaign is vanishingly small! So that knocks one of his defenses. As for being 'black', is that the proper word for it now? I thought it had evolved?

As for knowing a bigot, I am sure that Mr Blow looks in the mirror every morning!

Blow had a complete meltdown - a tantrum. Bruce was so calm and measured. Blow couldn’t even answer one question without throwing a fit. Liberalism often appeals to emotionalism as opposed to rational arguments, and that’s why debating with liberals often devolves into personal attacks. Blow was a textbook example.
