The US 6th Fleet operates in the Med. When I was in the Corps we were on station for 7 months in case something like this happened. A full battle ready Marine rifle battalion could be deployed in less that 24 hours to assist in defense of this base. Not to mention a carrier battle group supporting it as well.
There is absolutely zero reason for this base to be lost other than Barry allowing it to happen.
