We were warned.
Prior to the Republican National Convention, multiple mainstream media outlets warned about Ohio's dangerous gun laws that allow for the open carry of firearms.
The head of the police union wanted Ohio Governor John Kasich to (unconstitutionally) suspend the state's gun laws.
"We are sending a letter to Gov. Kasich requesting assistance from him. He could very easily do some kind of executive order or something -- I don't care if it's constitutional or not at this point," Stephen Loomis, president of Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association, told CNN. "They can fight about it after the RNC or they can lift it after the RNC, but I want him to absolutely outlaw open-carry in Cuyahoga County until this RNC is over."
The New York Times ominously reported: "However, given the recent tumult around the country, some leaders are anxious that the environment could turn dangerous. Members of one group made up of current and former members of the military called the Oath Keepers, who have shown up at other tense events heavily armed, say they again plan to carry weapons into Cleveland."

As teenagers in Arizona, we used to walk down Tanque Verde road in the summertime armed to the teeth. Pistols, rifles, shotguns...them varmints better watch out. And them tin cans too. We wuz comin’ to get them...
Nobody thought anything of it. County sheriffs used to zoom right by. Utterly boring and normal.
Truly hilarious to see a bunch of fools in the media getting all excited over it.
Obviously several thousand, but the news was suppressed by the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy and the Rich Right Wing Media Moguls.
Were there fewer shootings than “normal” in Cleveland this past week?
Is this why BLM didn’t try to shut it down?
There was mayhem and panic in the streets committed by those gun nuts..

It was the good guys with guns that kept the bad guys with guns away. Works every time it is tried.
I wonder if we could dig up crime statistics for Cuyahoga County during those days and compare with previous weeks.
I’d bet it’ll be similar to how crime drops in cities where the NRA conventions are held.
