If I had any lingering doubts about Donald Trump being the best possible candidate for President, he erased them with his announcement of Mike Pence as his preferred VP.
It is not about Mike Pence, although he is a great selection.
Go to 13:40 in his announcement speech.
At that point in the speech, Mr. Trump explains the "Johnson Amendment". This was an amendment to the US Tax code in 1954 proposed by Senator Lyndon B. Johnson and eventually passed that prohibited Pastors, Ministers and Priests from addressing political issues in their sermons on the penalty of losing their tax exempt status.
Churches have been cowering to political correctness because of that particular tax code. We have witnessed the deterioration of the church's influence on society. We have witnessed the deterioration of our society.
The liberal/socialist/communist/democrats have made every possible social issue into a political issue. Because of this law, our clergy have been silenced on all social issues. Our church membership has continued to dwindle as the churches were prohibited from addressing the preeminent social issues of the day by this insidious, reprehensible tax code.
Mr. Trump, President Trump, is going to get this egregious tax code repealed.
This is not news. David Barton of Wallbuilders included this information in his American Heritage series a decade ago. Yet, not one single conservative Christian politician has had the courage or foresight to even address it.
I love Ted Cruz and expect he will be President one day, but here and now, we need Donald Trump. He is fearless. He is honest.
He will drill down to the ultimate truth of any matter that presents itself and resolve it with dispatch that will make lesser minds spin. And most minds are lesser than his. It's not just that we could do worse, it's that it would be very difficult for us to do better than to elect Donald Trump as President of these United States of America.
You’d THINK there would already be a HAIKU about
Trump and pence. Single syllables, short, pithy. Hmmmm.
However you view this law from a policy and tax fairness standpoint, the principle problem is that almost any law is typically enforced to the benefit of the liberal agenda and the detriment of normal people (conservatives / freedom lovers). Therefore, even if you believed in the law on the merits, it has to go, like every law that is enforced in a way that discriminates against conservatives. (And no, simply balancing enforcement won’t work because government has a built-in bias that favors those who favor expansion of government. Shocking. It would eventually just resume biased enforcement)
Donald Trump and Pence
Our Prez and Vice President
Sounds real good to me!
Donald Trump’s the Man
Kicking Clinton to the curb
Pence watching Trump’s back
LBJ introduced the amendment to silence some opponents.
Leftist clergy, of course, have always been at liberty to engage in politics.
Anyway, the point is that it has NOTHING to do with the First Amendment.
NOT bad, not bad at all!
Do Democrat Politicians already have an Opt Out?
They show up in Black Churches, speak with a Negro Dialect and discuss Politics all the time.
I LIKE it.
:o)
This is huge.
Think no fly list. .....
Donald Trump, Mike Pence
Marching forth to victory
Let us hope it so.
... had to chime in, even if this is a little more pensive :-)
Refer to my #3
Anyway, the point is that it has NOTHING to do with the First Amendment.
I am afraid you lost me with the last sentence. How so?
Or did I just ignore the missing /s?

I don’t see how the last sentence is a disconnect. This Johnson Amendment that has silenced our clergy for over half a century is sort of a big deal. If Trump fosters legislation to repeal it and succeeds, we will see considerable resurgence of our religious leaders. Sounds like a good thing to me.
Awesome. Apparently Trump understands freedom of religion as stated in the First Amendment—both clauses.
Neither clause says religion cannot be spoken in the public square.
Trump also seems to understand (let’s hope!) that the only thing that can counter the creeping Muslim takeover and sharia law that is being facilitated by the left-— is a strong Judeo-Christian —and constitutional—pushback!!
Vote for Trump and Pence.
They will take our country back,
Make us great again.
I never said it has anything to do with the 1st amendment. I said it has something to do with silencing our clergy via the IRS. I said that Trump is the only politician to address the issue and to recommend repealing this sordid piece of the tax code. I’m impressed. Even Ted Cruz didn’t have the balls to challenge the Johnson Amendment and he’s no lightweight.
It sealed the deal with me and I wanted to share that perspective because it was a small sideline to the Presidential VP pick that I thought deserved a little attention.
The Donald has a knack for driving the narrative and this impressed the hell out of me.
