To take a line from the song “Constantinople”, “Its nobody’s business but the Turks.”

Are you kidding? Europe is dancing that he’s out of power and obama has no spine.

NATO isn’t worth the toilet tissue it’s written on these days.

According to fas.org there’s a large weapons storage area in Incirlic that we would care very much about.

Its simply a crack in the facade of a statist bureaucracy that has lived 25 beyond the end of its mission.

Military coups are not uncommon in Turkey. Look for NATO to stay out of the way.

Not going to happen. Erdogan is too proud, there is no legal basis, and Nato would prefer Erdogan out anyway.

In spite of Kerry’s assertions of support for the “democratically elected government,” I can’t help but think the US would be glad to be rid of Erdogan, and wishes to maintain good relations with the army. The big question is whether this coup was staged by a united Turkish military or whether they are split into factions. If the latter, there could be big trouble.

Pamela Geller tweets that her contact on the ground is saying Erdogan has retaken power.

To answer your question, I think NATO only applies if the country is attacked from the outside.

That must be why they intervened in Kosovo and Libya.

“Pamela Geller tweets that her contact on the ground is saying Erdogan has retaken power.”

But the rest of what Geller is posting is far different.

A very good question! We (US) have made Turkey so strong militarily that it is now serious power to contend with - ally or foe, we don’t know. I believe we would have a better ally with the military than with Erdogan.

Greece joined NATO in 1952, had a military junta after a coup from 1967-1974, and oddly enough, after they began their transition back to democracy, Greece withdrew its forces from NATO’s military command structure from 1974 to 1980 as a result of Greco-Turkish tensions following the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

Obama’s friend Erdogan stages a coup right before our conventions. Obama sends all conservative enlisted and reservists out of the country and telegraphs all their movements to opposition forces. Incites violence in American cities. Calls up National Guard to lower the martial law boom.
