(Vanity) Lets compare and contrast Mika Johnson to Chris Dorner

Someone's background immediately comes out in the methods of their attacks.

The DC Snipers had that car that they had modified. An interesting story of civilians become horribly dangerous killers. (The DC Sniper was one of the scariest moments in our recent history. Anyone could have been killed at any time from a mobile sniper platform. it was like an invisible tank)

Chris Dorner almost had us cheering though. His methods and tactics were commented on a long time as being a result of his military training. I'm not a vet and I've never been in the military but it appeared to me that Dorner learned a lot from his time in. And while Dorner wasn't on the loose against me and my family, his tactics and seeming brilliance on the urban battlefield really had people talking about the kind of power that the returning vet has over everyday police.

But this Mika kid had some sort of training. Ok, he wasn't a ranger or a devil dog or anything but still - he was trained to do the things he was doing.

The SKS selection of rifle was very unusual. I'm not going to say it was insane for a trained serviceman to choose the SKS (It's a great rifle) but it's a woodland rifle. Anyone knows that the addition of the stocks and the modified mags lead to failures and just a shitty overall gun. SKSs need wood and clips.

I'm surprised he would choose this though. When someone goes through the M4 training, it's so comprehensive that the trainee gets blinders for other guns. Most people out of the service seem to forget that other rifles are made that aren't AR or AK.

This is a generalism, of course. Of course every vet knows that other weapon platforms exist. I'm just saying it's not common.

And his tactic... We got to see some of his tactics with the pillar maneuver. This isn't something that someone would do without the comfort level of having practiced siege tactics over and over. He exhibited the balance of speed and graceful steps to the pillar. He didn't exhibit the hesitation or the clumsiness that a normal thug would.

Now this guy is no Jet Li, lets not mince words. He got stuck on the upper floors of a building during a fully staffed police exercise. Dorner kept the battlefield wide open - to a point where no one had a fix on him for miles.

And Dorner's tactics were also those of someone who understood something that normal people do not.

I'd like to hear from the FReepers: Compare and contrast the behaviors of these two.

John Allen Muhammad was an Army vet. Also radicalized by the Nation of Islam.

Maybe some folks need to be denied military training?

“John Allen Muhammad was an Army vet”

Oh, was he ? I didn’t know that.

So there I go. I thought he was a civilian.

Since this is my Vanity thread, I’m going to nosedive it right into the ground.

I used to think that the militarization of police was a terrible, terrible idea. Now I’m seeing the need for it.

Maybe not in the vehicles but the police need to be brought into a new generation of tactics and equipment.

There has to be some sort of balance. We have technology. Perhaps police could be on the front-lines of technology on US soil. Surveillance drones, open lines to phone taps, court-led appropriations of tools and tech.

I’m getting torn. Cops need to get some of these tools. MRAPS ? Maybe not. But the training needs to go beyond what they have now.

Chris Dorner almost had us cheering though.

Instead of discussing tactics, I think we need to discuss your reasoning. You have a warped view of the issue

Killers like this do not have us "cheering".

Good job. Keep that stick forward just a little longer.

The problem is not that the cops need better training or more equipment. They need better intel.

This guy was prancing around marching with the Black Panthers in Texas a few months ago. The warning signs were all there. LE should be infiltrating these groups like they used to back in the 60s. (I know, I know, this not the old J. Edgar FBI anymore)

We also need to not let riots start. Protestors can’t burn crosses, but they can chant about killing cops?

Thanks for posting this!

The DC sniper, John Allen Muhammad was an Army vet.

He was, also radicalized by the Nation of Islam.

NOI/Nation of Islam is America's Isis ignored by the mediots, justice department and congress.

See my tagline for a short and all we need to know discussion/definition about Islam!

If Dorner was so smart, why did he flee to Big Bear Lake? There are only three roads, all of them two-lane highways, from which one can escape form there.

I’m not sure that was Micah X doing the pillar shooting.

I think he had trained help. Initial police audio spoke of other shooters.
