I loathe the fact that Police Officers who are SUPPOSED to be PUBLIC SERVANTS and UPHOLDERS OF THE LAW, have been turned into HIGHWAY BANDITS under the charge of policies to encourage “Generating Revenue” for the local governments....

It drives another wedge between the LAW ABIDING CITIZEN and the LAW ENFORCEMENT and needlessly so!

My daughter was stopped in one of those revenue enhancement speed traps. She was under 30 at the time. The officer asked that she come by later and take care of the fine. he apparently would settle the fine personally.

She did not take him up on that kind offer but instead, paid the fine by mail.

highwayman

a man, typically on horseback, who held up travelers at gunpoint in order to rob them.

In California last year, they “means tested” outstanding traffic tickets. They simply voided the tickets of people with low incomes. That is a tacit acknowledgement that traffic fines are simply another PROGRESSIVE tax scheme. People with higher incomes, of course, get no such relief and in fact the fines go UP to offset the “revenue loss”.
