Dude if you are from up North the culture shock is going to kill you. There is no good place in Tupelo, MS. LOL!
My daughter and I went through there a few days after he died. His house is off hwy 78. We had never seen so many flowers. It is a shotgun house which usually means you can look in the front door and see out the back door. My cousin’s wife grew up with Elvis.
I love Tupelo. People are friendly and wecoming. Tupelo is a city of about 40,000 that thinks and acts like city 10 times that big.
Lee County is pretty Damn good also.
Taxes are low as well as crime.
Politics are conservative Republican and Mississippi Democrat. Pretty well mixed.
Weather SUCKS. Cold wet winters and hot humid summers. I would still be there if not for my arthritis. Desert is more friendly toward to arthritis.
Thanks for the input, much appreciated.
Surely you are not that dense. The poster is asking for info in order to LIVE there, not what is there to do for a fun visit. I would want to be given warnings on what to avoid from FRiends 'in the know'.
Back to your seat please.
Tupelo is considered one of the better places to live in that region. Not as popular as Oxford and certainly not as active. Just remember this is the South. We Southerners love it, but it can be very different from other parts of the country. You might try renting a house for a year or two and get the feel of it. I was born and reared in MS, moved to another state next door. But I sure miss my home town and state. I wish you the best whatever you decide.
Well, it all sounded like good information.
One thing that you’ll enjoy for sure is the fact that we just became a ‘constitutional carry’ state!
Far more blacks than you are likely used to unless you are one and even then
It’s fairly prosperous
The hilly northeast corner of the state
Conservative whites around 80-90%
Blacks who make up I guess around 25-30% in Lee County are much better behaved and hospitable than in Jackson or Nashville where I live
You’ll likely need private school if you have kids but it’s cheap compared to big cities
It’s slow small town Mississippi
Very conservative
A bit class conscious....southern waspishness
A little white trash
Redneck is sort of a 1960s thing
Hunting and boating abound
You go to Memphis or Birmingham or Nashville all 2-3 hours away or Jackson for city stuff
The Gulf Coast is about 5-6 hours which is good
Great house for cheap and with land if you want
Oxford is 50 miles and it’s a cool town for food and Faulkner and gurl watching
If the job is worth it then it should suit you since you post here
More folks there who’d support this forum than in Pennsylvania
Ping!
