Democrazy: Venezuela Needs a Military Coup
Canada Free Press ^ | 05/23/16 | Selwyn Duke

Cautionary tale: When socialism is instituted democratically, it’s a good indication that your days of making decisions democratically may be numbered

With Venezuela spinning out of control, it’s said that U.S. officials fear a military coup. We ought to ask “Why?”

Democracy on the brain can be a dangerous condition. George W. Bush pursued his unwise “nation-building” policies under the assumption that, as he put it, “democracies don’t go to war with each other.” (Note: technically we’re speaking of “republics,” not democracies.) So WWI was the “war to end all wars,” and now there’s the political system to end all wars; hey, if a military solution didn’t change man’s nature, maybe a political solution will?

Not just any military coup.. Venezuela needs a Pinochet.

Thanks to Pinochet, Chile has the best economy in South America, although the socialists there are trying to mess it up.

IMHO Without a military coup Venezuela will not remain a country for much longer. People will starve under the boot of Maduro until he can no longer feed the army at which point the central government will collapse. With power being centralized over the last 20 years I don’t imagine any of the resource rich regions will have the wherewithal to take over or to form their own state. The more likely result is that it will become a narco-state similar to Columbia of 20 years ago.

This is a military coup. It has been a junta, all along. Venezuela pays its bonded debt on time, most the holders being that country's elite families and not a few generals.

Their imports go to the shops used by the party and the military, and these are well-stocked.

Like Stalin, the party is using shortages of food and medicine to control the population.

Starving the Ukraine, down South America way.

Eventually Colombia may get involved and take care of the problem.

Another pedant self-identifies. A republic is a subset of democracy. For every needle-nose who feels it his task to police the calling of America a democracy, there must be another one who says, “I don’t have an automobile, I have a pickup truck.”

The people of Venezuela VOTED, V-O-T-E-D for socialism.

It wasn’t imposed on them by wild eyed crazies.

Socialism sounds good until you have to live in it.

They haven’t suffered enough.

I think we could send them some aid if we could send every American university professor to Venezuela for a year to eat cat.

Is every socialist professor in the US asked by the students every day how things are going in the socialist paradise of Venezuela?

Why not?

Democracies and republics crash, when net consumers of government benefits become a dominant voting bloc.

Screw Venezuela.

If this election is stolen from Donald J Trump, or he doesn’t show us that he is serious in dong all he said he is going to do, then It had best be a Militia uprising and revolution.

As for Venezuela, in the words of a dead queen in France, “Let them eat cake”.

Or as was said centuries ago, democracy works until the voters realize they have the keys to the treasury.

If you are stupid, ignorant, or greedy enough to vote for Socialism, you are not qualified to govern yourself.

Bernie will be available soon if they need a new leader for the military to install. They may want things to improve though so while they’re the ideal country for him he’s probably not right for them.

A Pinochet? That’s exactly what nobody needs. I can accept the idea of a military rebellion in some circumstances to -preserve- the rule of law. Honduras is a recent example. The military did not rule, it supported civilian rule then went back to the barracks.

But though some worship the turd, Pinochet was a mass murderer. And no, they weren’t just terrorist killers. It included thousands such as writers, labor organizers (distasteful, but not worthy of a hit squad) university professors and anyone suspected of being against the junta.

It always amazes me how many so called “conservatives” would love a military dictatorship. Love the idea of an authoritarian mass murderer, to protect you from an authoritarian mass murderer. Ignorant.

Count me in, it is an important distinction, especially to most Freepers.

Isn’t a military coup what got them to where they are today?

My question is after so long under the Cuban clone dictatorship and thugocracy, is the military like ours, filled with supporters of the regime?

Would a could be any better? Is there any reason to believe the generals are not just as socialist, but just wanting more food in the stores?

At this point it will require more than a change at the top. I wonder if they could talk Spain into re-colonializing?
