I think we had something like 20 divisions in Europe at the end of the war. Counting our allies there might have been 40 divisions in all. The Russians had 200 divisions. Starting a war with Russia in 1945 was not a good idea. Could we have beaten them? Yes we had the bomb but it would have been a very ugly win.

Korea on the other hand was very winable. All Truman had to do was let MacArthur run things. MacArthur wanted to use Chan Ki Sheck (sp) to threaten an invasion of China. Thereby freezing Chinese troops in place across the Formosa straights. But that idiot Truman would not allow The General to do his thing instead Truman send the 7th Fleet to the Formosa straight to ensure Chan Ki Sheck did not invade. Now where do you think all those Chinese troops went? Yup Korea. Truman was a military fool. FDR would have let MacArthur win.

My post was rather tongue-in-cheek, but, I’ll grant your point in particular. Our political history is pretty horrid when it comes to military decisions. The only possibility that would be worse would be to have military control.

While we have had a few exceptional military men, the majority of the perfumed princes at the Pentagon make most politicians look competent—our current crop a perfect example. Our proud military history is not just besmirched by these bastards, but denigrated as evil. These traitors can’t tell Shiite from Saint, or even shaft from socket.
