Bill Kristol meets with Romney, tries to convince him to make a third-party run

…Unless, of course, you're trying to put Hillary in the oval office

Donald Trump is a boorish, horrible, human being who fails to live up to even the dismal behavioral standards of Bill Clinton. He’s also not a “true conservative” - whatever that is. This is the message being offered by the #NeverTrumpers who are hell-bent on handing the election to Hillary finding a “real dyed-in-the-wool conservative” who will run as a 2016 third party candidate. Because Trump is so odious, someone with honest-to-God “right-wing credentials” simply must be dragged into the race.

To that end, “real conservative” and Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol has been meeting with the ultimate conservative candidate. His name is… Mitt Romney.

Kristol makes Johnny Manziel look like a model of moral integrity, by comparison. Johnny has a substance abuse problem. Kristol does not appear to even have that excuse for behaving in a contemptible manner.

Of course Romney doesn’t have to win the election to accomplish his goal of keeping Trump out. There is also the possibility that Romney keeps both Trump and the dem from an electoral college victory, in which case all bets are off.

Makes sense. Kristol’s a neocon, so is Hillary. Of course he wants her elected.

One clarification: The "seedbed of ideas" that proceeded the Founding Fathers, was never based on ideological theories--which your quotation might be misconstrued to refer to. The Founders' under-standing of the proper--indeed both altruistic & pragmatic--role of Government, was based upon the actual experiences of their forebears, who had literally build functionally successful political societies from the ground up. (The Declaration of Independence clearly reflects this experience based understanding>)

See Grounded On Experience & Reason.

Jefferson could paraphrase Locke, knowing from the immediate past history of Virginia that Locke was functionally confirmed by those actual experiences.

Æsop. (Sixth century B.C.) Fables.
The Harvard Classics. 1909–14.

The Bat, the Birds, and the Beasts

A GREAT conflict was about to come off between the Birds and the Beasts. When the two armies were collected together the Bat hesitated which to join. The Birds that passed his perch said: “Come with us”; but he said: “I am a Beast.” Later on, some Beasts who were passing underneath him looked up and said: “Come with us”; but he said: “I am a Bird.” Luckily at the last moment peace was made, and no battle took place, so the Bat came to the Birds and wished to join in the rejoicings, but they all turned against him and he had to fly away. He then went to the Beasts, but soon had to beat a retreat, or else they would have torn him to pieces. “Ah,” said the Bat, “I see now,

“HE THAT IS NEITHER ONE THING NOR THE OTHER HAS NO FRIENDS.”

Kristol’s a neocon, so is Hillary.

Neocons loved Bill Clinton's Presidency. He signed NAFTA into law, supported amnesty for illegal immigrants, he increased guest worker quotas, and he gave them the war that they wanted in the Balkans. Many of these things were as much Hillary's pet projects as they were Bill's, if not more so. As Obama's Secretary of State, Hillary pushed the "Arab Spring" agenda, as did the neoconservatives. Kristol should just drop the whole "conservative Republican" charade and endorse Hillary. Playing the part of Hillary's herald will get Billy farther than playing Mitt Romney's lackey ever could.

Thank you for your response. Both analyses are correct.

The "seedbed of ideas" referred to in my post comes from references from early historians who focused on the ideological underpinnings of the founding documents, such as the following reference in an earlier post of mine on this site:

"Rise of the Republic of the United States" - Richard Frothingham.

"Ideas have consequences"(Weaver), already has been suggested.

In 2011, we must remember that the ideas of 1776 came out of a set of ideas consistent with liberty.

We tend to forget, or have never considered, that other world views existed then, as now.

Unless today's citizens rediscover the ideas of liberty existing in what Jefferson called "the American mind" of 1776, we risk going back to the "Old World" ideas which preceded the "Miracle of America."

There are those who call themselves "progressives," when, in fact, their ideas are regressive and enslaving, and as old as the history of civilization.

Would suggest to any who wish an authentic history of the ideas underlying American's founding a visit to this web site, at which Richard Frothingham's outstanding 1872 "History of the Rise of the Republic of the United States" can be read on line.

This 600+-page history traces the ideas which gave birth to the American founding. Throughout, Richard Frothingham, the historian, develops the idea that it is "the Christian idea of man" which allowed the philosophy underlying the Declaration of Independence and Constitution to become a reality--an idea which recognizes the individual and the Source of his/her "Creator"-endowed life, liberty and law.

Is there any wonder that the enemies of freedom, the so-called "progressives," do not promote such authentic histories of America? Their philosophy puts something called "the state," or "global interests" as being superior to individuals and requires a political elitist group to decide what role individuals are to play.

In other words, they must turn the Founders' ideas upside-down in order to achieve a common mediocrity for individuals and power for themselves.

When reading the online version, a limited search of the available text for the word, "Christian," reveals several pages in Frothingham's history (the pursuit of which was devoted, according to the Preface, to a search for the "streams" which had contributed to the "rise of the republic." He acknowledged that other histories had not undertaken such a pursuit. He had prepared other less expansive writings on historical topics.

Thanks, again.

He’s conservative on some issues, but certainly not on immigration. And he has an aversion to Trump’s views on trade, which he deems protectionist. He’s a globalist, to get down to it.

I haven’t listened to Bill Krystol in years. Too far left for me. I do believe he was one of the Sarah Palin mockers, too. Not sure, but I think he was. I discounted all of them back I the day.

Exactly. I haven't seen him in years to form a more recent opinion. He used to be a regular on one of the Sunday morning Fox news shows.

Good to know about Palin. Thanks.
