I have a 27 y.o. son with Aspergers (which term I will continue to use) and I have never heard of Lupron therapy for people on the autistic spectrum, nor have I ever heard of inappropriate, uncontrollable sexuality being a problem for young people with Aspergers. Violent behavior is a not a feature of Aspergers alone but may occur with a co-morbid disorder like bipolar disorder.
And while children with Aspergers may be bullied, bullying is not the cause of their impaired social ability, which may show up years before they go to school.
My own son had inconsolable colic from two weeks to four and a half months, an unusual lack of recognition of motor milestones like rolling over - he did them on time but did not attempt to do them again and again like other babies, a loss of pre-speech babbling at seven months and a loss of eye contact at eight months, and strange fascinations (lint, light switches) beginning at nine months.
No bullying, no significant interactions with other children, and no doctors forcing a stereotyping diagnosis on a child - I was a mother saying something is wrong a year before his pediatricians said, yeah, maybe there is.
There is so much wrong with this article. Our experience is pretty much the same as yours, but my son is 20 years younger than yours. We have such a great team at our school. I feel so blessed that God deemed us fit enough to be parents to our little guy!
