OK: Republicans Try To Kill Right To Keep And Bear Arms...And Laugh About It

House Republicans are trying to kill HJR1009, OK2A's proposed amendment to the state constitution that would strengthen the right to keep and bear arms at the state level. This right has been weakened to the point that the state courts would uphold almost any restriction on the right. It is critical that Oklahomans have a second layer of defense (through the state courts) because the federal courts are unlikely to overturn restrictions such as magazine capacity limit laws, etc. If passed, HJR1009 would go to a vote of the people on the November 2016 General Election ballot.

These Republicans are taking their marching orders from the Chamber of Commerce, David Boren, Clay Bennett, and ultimately Michael Bloomberg. David Boren, who has come out against the measure, is a member of the Advisory Board for Michael Bloomberg's Everytown for Gun Safety. Mom's Demand Action, a subsidiary of Everytown has been working to stop HJR1009 along with Boren, Bennett, et al.

Several Republican members of the House Rules Committee (which is the House side of the Conference Committee for HJR1009) that previously voted for HJR1009 - most of them twice - and have even signed on as co-authors of the measure, have suddenly flip-flopped on the issue. One of them even seemed to get a kick out of the possibility of killing it. Are you angry yet? Republicans laughing about trampling on your right to keep and bear arms while following marching orders from a liberal, New York, gun-grabber lobbying against your natural right to protect yourself - that should make every pro-gun Oklahoman livid!

These members need to hear from us. They've heard from the other side. The organizations and state agencies lined up against HJR1009 have generated a lot of calls and emails urging these legislators to vote against their constituents. It's time that gun owners speak up - and speak loudly! At the end of this article, we will include a list of the members of the House Rules Committee and how they voted previously on the measure and whether or not they've agreed to sign HJR1009 out of the Conference Committee. Please call or email them immediately. Urge your pro-gun friends to do the same.

We are also including a list of organizations and state agencies that have lobbied against your right to keep and bear arms - some of them have done so using your tax dollars. Take some time to call some of them and let them know you are displeased with them as well.

Here are some of the major points to mention as you talk to the legislators:

  1. It has been said that the NBA and the Thunder would HAVE to leave OKC if HJR1009 passes because the NBA requires a no-gun policy in the venues where their games are held. Explain to me how this could be true when Louisiana adopted the exact same language in question into their state constitution in 2012, yet the Pelicans (an NBA franchise) are still in New Orleans. This is a blatant lie!
  2. It has been said that any event using the fairgrounds or other publicly owned venue would not be able to have a no-gun policy. This measure would protect against the government infringing on your right to self-defense; it does not infringe on private property rights. This, too, is a blatant lie! Private entities that rent or lease a venue have legal control of that venue during their event and, as such, can adopt a no-gun policy if they wish. The constitution (federal and state) has nothing to do with forcing a private entity to give up private property rights. It is their right to control the property they legally control.
  3. Why would they be afraid to let the people vote? These legislators have joined David Boren, Clay Bennett, OSBI, and others who have allied themselves with Moms Demand Action and a liberal, anti-gun, New Yorker that wants to disenfranchise Oklahoma gun owners by not allowing them to vote on HJR1009. If it is such a bad thing, let Bloomberg make his case to the people.

House Rules Committee members. Remember, if you speak to the legislative assistant, be polite - they may actually agree with you. If you speak to the legislator, be firm but respectful.

(Note: The members don't take a vote during conference committees, instead they "sign the bill out." So, the notation "signed" behind their name indicates they "voted" for the bill. If they will not sign, it is essentially a vote against the bill. If there is no notation, they have not made their intentions clear):

The following are a few of the organizations or state agencies that have lobbied against your natural right to defend yourself. Ask them why they are siding with New York gun-grabbers like Bloomberg. Again, if you speak to a secretary, remember they may agree with you so be polite.

Again, Oklahoma Republicans are conspiring with the Chamber of Commerce, the NBA and Michael Bloomberg in an attempt to deny the citizens an opportunity to vote to strengthen our gun rights.

you know, making the speed limit 3 mph would almost ENSURE no vehicle deaths. Make it so cars CANT go faster than 3 mph.

How many a year compared to mass shooting deaths?

For everyone's information.

Each of the 13 colonies wrote up their state constitution BEFORE the Federal Constitution.

They can be found at a site called Avalon.

The Constitution was adopted with the provision that a Bill of Rights be added (similar to the states) so that future territories and states would be on the same page.

It was almost 10 years before the Bill of Rights was added....ridiculous amount of time.

politicians across this country view the citizens as their golden goose but also as their unwilling enemy. Who in their right minds would want their enemies to have firearms?

The Camber of Commerce are a lot like Jerry Jones, they will do anything for a free penny.

dont get me started.

contraindicated scripts destroyed life as i knew it and big shot doctors board in NY found doctor not guilty of negligence.

Was quite against the belief that America was any fairer than most other countries for a while.
