Discuss amongst yerselves.
I have not seen the TV show. But I love this genre in movies and books.
I’m currently stuck in book 5 of the series. I devoured books 1 & 2, but started to bog down in book 3....struggled through 4.....and now I am stuck.
I was getting seriously depressed. A character in the story would be artfully developed, you would begin to root for him/her, and then he/she would die. The pattern would repeat itself over and over again. I found myself getting angry.
Then someone explained to me that the Author, George R.R. Martin, was doing this on purpose. He does not like his readers, and the entire Game of Thrones series is designed and written to make his readership miserable, by creating characters they care about and then torturing them before killing them.
So, there I am....with 5 of his books. Boy, do I feel stupid.
They've outrun the books and the dialogue has slipped a bit. "Don't eat the help," and "I prefer being an only child." The writers are getting self-indulgent. I wonder if GRRM gets signoff on scripts.
Ignoring the sarcasm, and adding more,
.. They need you at the DO"J".
I think Ramsay makes King Joffrey look like Mother Theresa.
Did anyone sense the wounds and physical appearance in death and “resurrection” of Jon Snow was made to be Christlike?
Luved the ending last night.
Yep, Tywin’s last words to Tyrion were “You’re no son of mine.”
From the dragon’s reactions, looks like he has a Targaryen father.
With the red chick at Castle Black, I knew Jon Snow was just pining for the fjords and not dead last season though...
Nice! I like that. Are you RR?
Let’s see, you willfully give $$ to people who hate you and hate everything you stand and will use that $$ to try and help turn America into a fascist socialist hellhole. You do this just so you can watch a TV show.
Yeah that would be stupid of you to say I’m the stupid one.
Boy, I guess that Gruber guy wasn’t just talking about the Libs.
Yes, it is impossible / impractical to avoid all entertainment with Liberal Influences.
However, HBO (and ESPN) go way above and beyond just “Liberal Influence” to outright hostility.
No Conservative in good conscience should pay extra for HBO.
Apparently Jon was only mostly dead...

LOL
“No Conservative in good conscience should pay extra for HBO.”
Conservatives don’t tell other people how to spend their hard-earned money.
Everyone knows Tyrion is the time-traveling fetus son of Daenerys and Khal Drogo:

The “I am Lord Bolton” line was good too, though you saw it coming a mile away.
Ramsey really likes those dogs....
“He does not like his readers, and the entire Game of Thrones series is designed and written to make his readership miserable, by creating characters they care about and then torturing them before killing them.”
No, that’s not quite true. He has said that when he was growing up, the parts of books he liked the best were the unexpected twists, such as Gandalf getting killed in the middle of the Lord of the Rings series. So he puts a lot of that stuff into the books. It’s not that he’s trying to torture the reader, he just wants to keep people on their toes.
Besides, most of the really interesting characters are still alive. Robb Stark wasn’t interesting, for example, because he didn’t really have much of a character arc. He knew who he was, what his purpose was, and what he had to do, so there was no conflict. Sure, he had some self-doubts, or conflicts with other characters, but without an internal conflict, he was just boring. Same goes for a lot of the other characters that died, they were more one-dimensional than the ones who are still alive.
Yeah, you don't have a Miracle Max hanging around and then not use them, that would be bad writing!
