I don’t know why progressives hate Israel.

Some of it is just their convenience as scapegoats. By hating Jews, democrat leaders give their followers someone it is "okay" and safe to hate. Some of it is pure malice. National socialists and soviet socialists have always hated Jews because they are God's people, and socialists are on the other side in this eternal battle. True Christians have chosen their side in this war, and so have liberals.

Part of it is “replacement theology” and another is Islamic Theology. By eliminating the Jewish people, they eliminate those responsible for the death of Jesus Christ.
