A quick glance at a map also illustrates the importance of Crimea in terms of power projection in the area. Any aircraft flying from Poland would be subject to interception by Crimea based aircraft.

You also assume that:

1. Communication existed between the USN ship and the Polish military.

2. The USN is allowed to ask the Poles for help.

3. The CIC wanted reinforcements to arrive.

There have been too many instances of US military humiliation recently and one wonders why these ships are placed in harm's way with no support in the air or at sea. Who is in charge and what are his aims?
