Republican Elite determined to elect Hillary
Canada Free Press ^ | 03/19/16 | Jeff Crouere

Unfortunately, the sad, but disturbing, truth is that many in the Republican Party leadership would much prefer President Hillary Clinton to President Donald Trump

The hysteria coming from GOP conservative purists and party insiders about Donald Trump is reaching ridiculous proportions. Talk show host Glenn Beck has compared the Republican frontrunner to Hitler, while Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse has thundered that he will never support Trump if he is the nominee.

The problem for these Trump haters is that he has garnered an impressive 7.5 million votes to date, along with 679 delegates. In the process, he has won 19 states, more than double the number for his nearest competitor, Texas Senator Ted Cruz. He is clearly energizing Americans across the country and winning in every region of the country.

Since most people are spoon-fed from the media, I doubt you know that this ‘single demographic’ represents about 50% of the voting public.

I am a retired professor (political science) and a conservative. I am well aware of voter demographics. Granted, this electoral season is different but I still think that what I have noted is generally correct and not a matter of conjecture or media influence. Trump has the opportunity to moderate and spread his appeal but has shown little inclination or capacity to do so.

Having said that, I was shocked in 2012 by an Obama second term and would have never thought millions of conservatives did not vote because they did not like the GOP nominee.

“I saw this phenomenon once before, a candidate claimed by the elites to be non-electable, hated and despised by the media, feared by the left, and his name was Ronald Reagan. Donald Trump will win, and he will have coattails if these idiotic elites will just shut up!”

Reagan was the “Great Communicator”; Donald Trump is the “Great Bullshi..ter.”

Trump has BEEN CLEAR that he will moderate for the November election. Right now his job is to keep his plurality of supporters fired up to vote for him, so he knows they need red meat. If Hillary somehow makes it to November, Trump will have a LOT MORE ROOM to maneuver.

By the way, what, exactly, is the starting point for people like Jeb? Basically, he’s looking for big-government Republicans (i.e., Common Core) that like Open Borders. I would estimate that base to be 10% of the electorate, at best. Trump is in a MUCH BETTER POSITION going into November than any GOPe could ever hope to be.

The GOP was infiltrated by the Progressive Socialists long ago, Trump has turned over a rock and exposed a poisonous snake den. No Socialists give up the reigns of power easily, there may be blood in the streets before this is over.

We saw how the protests against government over reach ended in Oregon. Being unarmed turned out to be fatal. The cowards would not confront armed citizens, they waited to ambush an unarmed man and shoot him down like a dog in the street.

Remember the names of the GOP Traitors, someday you will see them in firing squad lineups for treason. If we want freedom now I fear we will have to fight for it, for the ballot box is berig exposed as a sham.

“Trump has BEEN CLEAR that he will moderate for the November election.”

I noted that possibility and hope that it comes to fruition.

“By the way, what, exactly, is the starting point for people like Jeb?”

You are correct; Jeb was the choice of the establishment and he started with that base. But in his defense, he addressed issues intelligently and did not give the general impression he was an ignorant loudmouth. He and Rubio were not too smart however, by allowing themselves to be drawn into Trump’s playground strategy.

Ok, we’re not that far apart. You know, you don’t have much arrogance for a professor talking about stuff in his own field...that’s really rare!

Of course they are, they have no problem with any Democrat as long as he is a globalist.

I’m afraid that our ‘leaders in congress’ along with our ‘leaders in the media, both print, talk, and broadcast’ have been busy over the years ‘shaving points’. What do I mean? They’ve led us down some pathways that they said were ‘conservative doctrine’, but that injured any winning effort.

Their purpose in shaving points was to get us to lose by just a little bit each time.

Trump will be Goldwater 2, with huge losses down ballot. Left wing Supreme Court, permanent Obamacare. Thank you, Trumpets.

The GOP handed the election to the Dems in 1992, 1996, 2008, and 2012. The only reason the Dems didn’t win in 2000 and 2004 is that W was a “compassionate conservative” which means he was basically a socialist, which passes the GOP litmus test. The only reason the Dems didn’t win in 1980 and 1984 is that Reagan defied the GOP.

Do you seriously think any Republican could have won in 2008? Or in 1996 for that matter?

And if the GOP gives elections to the Dems and Bush passed their litmus test, shouldn't he have lost too?

And did Reagan really defy the GOP or get them to work with and for him? Check out his cabinet. A lot of them were GOP Establishment.

You keep your beliefs but lose your arrogance as the only conservative member of a college political science department. Any arrogance that you might have is taken from you by the faculty progressives to whom it rightly belongs.

I asked a far leftie “Why do you hate Bush so much? He’s giving Ted Kennedy everything he wants.” Once again I got the “deer in the headlights” look.

I’ve never seen GOPe republicans attack democRats as viciously as they attack conservatives....I’m at the point where I believe in and will accept the destruction of the party as we know it, even if that means Hillary as POTUS.

If things don’t change substantially between now and November, you are correct. I do not believe the present incarnation of Trump could carry 40% of the vote, excluding conservatives who will refuse to vote for him.

Hillary Clinton or any progressive candidate should be so easy to beat this year but it looks like the internal partisanship of conservatives will prevent that from happening just as it did in 2012.

If the GOP had put up this “defeat trump” type fight against the kenyan they definitely would have defeated him.

"Republicans attack Democrat front-runner" gets lost in the usual campaign noise. The more and the louder you do it, the less people hear it.

"Republicans attack Republican front-runner" cuts through the noise. I'm not saying it will work, but it does get heard more than usual Republican v. Democrat or Democrat v. Republican rhetoric.

These are angry white middle to lower middle class citizens of which I am one. And too often, being angry (as we should be) we assume that a majority of Americans are likewise,...but we should not assume that they are angry for the same reasons.

Good point. When a party wins, people tend to assume that their voters are going to be with them forever.

There are some who still think that people who voted for Reagan thirty years ago and haven't voted Republican since are just waiting to vote for Trump (or Cruz) if he gets the nomination.

Maybe, maybe not. Trump stands a better chance of winning those votes than Cruz (though he'll lose votes elsewhere), but it's not something one can simply assume to be true.
