Lewandowski first came to political prominence during the Jack Abramoff scandal, when he was an aide to Bob Ney, the Ohio congressman who got sent away for 30 years on corruption charges during the whole mess. Basically, Ney was convicted of doing political favors for Abramoff clients in exchange for improper gifts - an absolutely pay for play scam. In the middle of it all was Lewandowski, who publicly and privately defended Ney until the very day he was put behind bars. As the Daily Beast noted last year:......

Ney was doing deals...big beautiful yuge deals. Pay for play is how NY developers get deals done. Some are just smart enough to wash the money through foundations, wedding invitations and gifts, and non-profit boards.

Does not say a thing about Lewandowski and his ties to the Koch brothers. Corey is a hired gun, and Trump decided he would be a good leader for his campaign, I tend to agree. So far so good, Redstate is a known anti-Trump force.

While one can stipulate that the left is trying to silence dissent (and much worse, viz Chicago this weekend), it does not follow that one can, or should blindly support every single thing Team Trump does.

That is to say, keeping the candidate safe is one thing, roughing up a girl reporter is another, and sorting out the one from the other will happen in due course. In other words, I don’t know what happened, but I’m willing to wait for the facts to come out and then let the chips fall where they may. But the knee-jerk, and often adhominem attack of anyone who questions this behavior isn’t exactly the sort of thing that will broaden your coalition.

To be more blunt, throwing casual insults and slurs and contempt at those whose help you will need in a few short months is worse than rude; it is stupid.

then there is suddenly an awful lot of "left" members here at Free Republic...trying to silence Cruz supporters. And yes....they are insulting the very folks whose votes they will need in November, should Trump win that nomination. I have examined it, and found it to be overwrought nonsense. Conversely, you don't seem to have examined it at all. You saw something that you perceived would reflect negatively on Trump, clutched your pearls tight, and ran with it.

I think a couple of things are being catalized by last night’s Chicago fiasco.

First, Trump probably clinched the nomination, thanks to the the organized cabal on the left, and to Cruz somewhat tin-eared (and since heavily spun), and finally by Trump himself not taking the left’s bait and cancelling the rally.

The second thing that is happening now, though, is Trump’s supporters are rabidly, desperately, trying to steal defeat from the jaws of victory by attacking not the Billy Ayers, or Obama’s Chicago machine, or the various lefty front groups, but Cruz supporters. We’re bad, we’re stupid, we’re “not conservative” (yeah, that’s a laugh). All the fire is aimed to the right.

Which makes no sense if you actually wanted to win in November.

Weird.
