President Obama on key qualities of next SCOTUS justice
Yahoo Politics ^ | February 24, 2016 | Unattributed

President Obama wants the next Supreme Court justice to have impeccable credentials, an independent mind and a keen understanding of how the world really works.

Obama outlined the sort of nominee he’ll choose in a guest post published on the SCOTUS blog Wednesday and said he intends to fulfill his constitutional duty of appointing a new judge to fill the bench vacancy left by Justice Antonin Scalia’s death on Feb. 13.

“Needless to say, this isn’t something I take lightly. It’s a decision to which I devote considerable time, deep reflection, careful deliberation, and serious consultation with legal experts, members of both political parties, and people across the political spectrum,” he wrote.

Whether Obama should fill the vacancy has predictably become a contentious issue, with many Republicans calling for the appointment to be postponed until his successor enters the Oval Office.

On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., announced that his party would categorically reject any appointment from Obama — even refusing to meet with the would-be justice for a courtesy meeting.

It's the third criteria, not specifically enumerated in this article that is the crux.

"“It’s the kind of life experience earned outside the classroom and the courtroom,” he wrote, “experience that suggests he or she views the law not only as an intellectual exercise, but also grasps the way it affects the daily reality of people’s lives in a big, complicated democracy, and in rapidly changing times. That, I believe, is an essential element for arriving at just decisions and fair outcomes.”

An outcome based judicial philosophy.

Every GOP Senator must understand, if they yield, not only will we primary them, we will vote for the Democrat in the general.

First, the GOP must die.

Everything else comes after that.

What he meant to say, is he wants his appointee to agree with him about how the world works.

That right there is reason enough to deny him.

Barry, I think I see a problem here...

In other words, a liberal who believes the Constitution is an ever changing document. Anyone but an originalist.

“a new judge to fill the bench vacancy left by Justice Antonin Scalia’s death”

The nation and the Supreme Court needs another Scalia.

I think Obama has 3 criteria:

1. Must be militantly pro-abortion.
2. Must be militantly pro-gay rights.
3. Must be willing to vote in lockstep with the four leftists already on the Court.

What jurist would be stupid enough to allow his entire career to be ruined by allowing Obama to nominate him in these circumstances? Anyone who would agree to serve as Obama’s sacrificial lamb would at the same time prove himself to be too stupid to legitimately qualify for the position.

that’s the “Outcome Based” judicial philosophy he’s looking for.

When it is to their political advantage, liberals will demand a strict interpretation of the Constitution with no exceptions.

It should be remembered that Justice Scalia’s death was unexpected.

The Senate simply has not had the time to find the best person to defend our Constitution and to be able to advise the President about his/her qualifications.

By the time Trump, Cruz or Rubio becomes President, hopefully the Senate will be able to advise the incoming President as the Founding Fathers envisioned.

Haste does make Waste.

I’m not fond of Obama’s previous picks. We’ve had some bad decisions because of Obama’s picks.

I am sure that Obama wants the next SCOTUS justice to understand the federal governments constitutionally limited powers as well as Obama does, if such a thing is possible. /sarc

President Obama wants the next Supreme Court justice to have impeccable credentials, an independent mind and a keen understanding of how the world really works.

Let me put this through the Obama Translation Translator:

IMPECCABLE CREDENTIALS = No paper trail of liberalism.

AN INDEPENDENT MIND = Unconstrained by the Constitution.

KEEN UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THE WORLD REALLY WORKS = Opposed to the Second Amendment, and also is a Social Justice Warrior.

"We’ve had some bad decisions because of Obama’s picks."

And Bush I and II.

Not to mention the aggressive advocacy of Roberts by Ted Cruz.

Hell, even Reagan made a bad pick.

That why is extraordinarily important to TAKE TIME and only consider a justice with a long, written track record.

And be willing to fight the commies for the confirmation, by any means needed to win.

Obviously the yahoo’s at Yahoo CAN NOT READ, nor comprehend the english language, And this article demonstrates they have NEVER even read the Constitution, because if they could do either of the aforementioned, they would know that the President does NOT Appoint Judges,
HE NOMINATES THEM, and the SENATE APPOINTS THEM.

Shouldn’t be surprised that he left out prayer...

Once again, GOP leadership is inept at messaging. Obama can now (and will) point to them as obstructionists, extremists, unreasonable, the party of “No”, and worse. All because they don’t have a clue how to deliver a cogent message.

What they should say:
“Of course President Obama has the responsibility AND the right to nominate a replacement for Justice Scalia. But, just as he was elected, so was the Republican majority in the Senate. We will consider any nominee he places before us. That said, he has already placed 2 justices on the Court, both of whom have proven to be the liberal, idealogues and judicial activists many of us feared they would be. If President Obama wishes to nominate a justice that would be a reasoned and reasonable successor, fitting for the legacy of Justice Scalia’s memory, I have no doubts they would earn quick confirmation. But should he attempt to pack the court with yet another justice that wishes to legislate from the bench, or to make law, rather than interpret law, then we’ll have no alternative but to deny that nominee’s ascent to the highest court.”
