And therin lies the problem.
Seems to be the attitude taken by many Freepers as well.
Let us not forget many of the worst leaders in history have been populist/nationalists which Trump has self admitted he is.
Trump never legalized abortion (before the Supreme Court made it nationwide) nor banned guns like Reagan did so you are correct.
Sadly this isn’t an attack article. This is actually an article by a Trump supporter.
Lack of character and fidelity to a conservative a world view is the reason were where we are right now. Republicans as a rule compromise when they shouldnt and basically are adrift. They lack what youre denigrating. So, if you want 4 more years of aimless adrift policy then OK but nothing gets fixed.
I think Scott Walker would have had a much better run and Iowa probably would have been a three way race between Bush, Cruz and Walker. Bush probably would have won New Hampshire, but there is no question that he would have had problems once he was in a debate setting and he wouldn’t be dominating the race like everyone assumed he would.
Bush is and was a bad candidate, even without Trump in the race. Trump has just dominated the race since July.

Trump is running as a Republican. His ideology is conservative leaning. If Conservatives want a litmus test party then can form a new one all their own and invite all 3 dozen people who qualify.
Ah that makes me sad.
But even despite his shortcomings, I LOVED the way he spoke and the things that he said.
My not caring about the author’s not caring cancels out all the not caring.

I don't believe in ideological purity tests when it comes to elections. I always prefer a conservative, but if I think a conservative is unelectable, I'll support a RINO over a Democrat. A lot of Freepers won't.
That being said, my problem with Trump isn't that he isn't an ideologically pure conservative. My problem is that I actually think he prefers big-government solutions in general. Not just a RINO who is wrong on some issues, but a guy who will generally be wrong on most issues.
A huge part of the problem we all seem to have in evaluating Trump is that we interpret his statements and positions differently. And since he's never held elective office, it makes it difficult to predict exactly what he's going to do. There is a lot of uncertainty regarding him. And some are essentially just trying to read between lines and say "I trust him".
For me, I'm willing to consider a guy like Trump without much of a track record. But if there are legitimate questions about a candidate without any political track record - and I think applies to Trump - then I believe that candidate is obliged to start being much more specific on his policy proposals.
Trump has refused to do that. He becomes deliberately vague when asked specifics, but I believe that given his lack of record and some questionable positions he has taken publicly in the past, that Republicans are owed more detailed, specific policy proposals so that we can know what the hell we're getting into if we elect him.
His failure to provide specifics during the GOP primary makes me incredibly nervous about where he really stands on a bunch of issues, particularly in light of some of his past statements. And I am extremely worried that he's doing what Obama did in 2008 -- avoiding specifics so he can be all things to as many people as possible, then do whatever the hell he wants when he gets in office.
Again, if people think that is an unfair evaluation of him, the power to correct that is something he possesses. Just start getting more specific on some of the specifics he's been ducking.

Yes, he’s running as a big government Republican. You can’t name one thing he’s proposing that doesn’t require more government. It’s not the government that’s the problem, it’s the people running it. So he’s gonna make it great again. LOL

Or the Republicans are incompetents. Outside of Ben Carson and Trump - those that are left in the presidential race for the GOP ticket are life long govt employees. Even private sector worth they did was about the govt. So no wonder they are incompetent. What’s that line from Ghostbusters? I’ve *worked* in the private sector. They expect *results*
THere are a finite number of people who call themselves “conservative” and they are split between Cruz, Trump, and a few others. Those votes are already locked-up for the most part, except for those who will just not vote at all.
But there are many independents, moderates, “silents”, libertarians, moderate Democrats, etc who are never going to wear the “conservative” label but who do like and support many of the ideas Trump is promoting. They want practial problem-solvers, not Harvard lawyers spewing theory and ideology.
A month ago Trump supporters on Freerepublic were declaring that he was a conservative. In the last week, we have more and more Trump supporters coming out and saying they don’t care that he isn’t a conservative.
Meh, for me it’s that the goalposts are shifted daily by Cruz supporters. It goes something like this.
Cruzers: TRUMP LOVES ABORTIONS!!!
Trump: Detailed editorial on pro-life stance.
Cruzers: EMINENT DOMAIN!!!! STOLE AN OLD LADY’S HOUSE!
Trump: Oh, here are all the facts about that. Also eminent domain is used for stadiums and malls and all sorts of economic development, and Cruz supports it too.
Cruzers: [insert new purity test]
And as it goes on and on the conservative positions Trump lays out are just ignored and the lies like “bulldozed an old lady’s house” are just repeated over and over again.
So, for me anyway, yeah. I’ve decided that “I don’t care” is a much more useful response than a bunch of words and facts that will just get ignored by the more ardent disciples of St. Ted the Anointed One.
One day closer to SC, and then on to March 1st. Hopefully it’ll all be over soon, however it plays out.
