The District of Columbia (D.C.) City Council has passed a measure that would pay people $9,000 a year to NOT commit crimes.
The mafia has a word for this: extortion. Except in this case, the mafia are the potential criminals, and the neighborhood business owners are the D.C. government.
Under the measure, which still has to be approved by the mayor, city officials would choose 200 people a year that they consider to be at high risk for committing or becoming a victim of a crime. ...

And when they want more money they will threaten to go on strike from NOT committing crimes until their stipend is increased.
What about putting a bounty of $1000 per head on criminals to be brought in?. You could fit 5 or 6 in a Hefty bag, and it would save a lot of money on incarceration and rehabilitation, and would also reduce the city’s carbon footprint.
Why couldn't the general populace also start to go around committing crimes to get on the $9000 gravy train? You could see 2 neighbors shake hands on breaking each others' living room windows and reporting each other. I wonder if the $9000 is being paid by local tax monies or fed money. Wouldn't you love being privileged to pay your share of DC's idiotic $9000 "Please don't commit crimes" bribe?

I remember back in the 70s,when my kids were teens,part time jobs for the kids were hard to get.
The town where we lived had a program to find part time jobs for teens that had been in trouble.
None of my kids had been in trouble———so no jobs.
I was quite annoyed,to say the least.

As a poster noted when this story was posted a few days ago: We’ve been paying them not to commit crimes for fifty years via freebies (to no avail).
So fitting that this is happening in the capital of the United States...
