GOP pushed Iowa win for Cruz only to blunt Trump and pump up Rubio

Trump’s whole campaign was based on success breeding success, the citing of self-referential poll victories to justify his own candidacy.

What happened in Iowa was that some version of normalcy returned to the G.O.P. race. The precedents of history have not been rendered irrelevant.

Ted Cruz picked up the voters who propelled Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee to victory in previous caucuses. His is a Tea Party wing in the G.O.P. But its size and geographic reach is limited.

The amazing surge for Marco Rubio shows that the Republican electorate has not gone collectively insane. At the last moment, and in a state that is not naturally friendly to him, a lot of Republicans showed up to support a conservative who could conceivably get elected and govern.

Marco Rubio now has his moment. He is the only candidate who can plausibly unify the party. Desperate Cruz-hating Republicans will turn their faces to him.

The Republican Party usually nominates unifying candidates like Marco Rubio. The laws of gravity have not been suspended. He has a great shot. But he has to show one more burst of imagination.

A pattern is there to see:
1. There was a much lesser turn-out for Democrats then before.
2. About that same number of “new” Gop registrations occurred on the day of the vote.
3. Rubio, a GOPe open borders candidate did very well in a State not known for supporting open borders.
4. We have seen GOPe use democrats to pump up Diablo’s against conservatives in other races.

IMHO the New GOP registrations were mostly Democrats gaming the vote to help ensure a brokered convention where the GOPe candidate can be forced on us.

But one thing that I could see Rubio do is peel off a huge number of Hispanic voters. If that happens, Hillary Clinton is done.

-----------

I think the Hispanic vote is kind of a myth. Hispanics are not that much of a uni-block. It is like saying the Eastern European vote in that Hispanics seem to be one group but come from many different Latin countries that are sometimes indifferent or hostile to one another.

No, the GOP is done if Rubio is the nom. Senor Rubio will never win the “rust belt” after supporting TPA. Rubio cast the 60th vote for TPA on cloture. The Dems will hang that around his neck and bash him Romney style.

...and you still think the establishment is that powerfull?

LOL

...and you still think the establishment favors Cruz over Trump the ethanol crony deal maker?

LOL. No basis for either theory.

There’s no denying it, skipping the debate hurt Trump in Iowa.

----

I honestly don't think so. Iowa is not an election in the normal sense. I think Trump not going to every county in Iowa did more to hurt him there than skipping a debate.

Rubio pulling a Jeb and campaining in spanish will haunt him to. If he gets the nomination he will go down in flames to bernie or hitlery.
Rubio will be our next mclame and mittens. The GOPe sacrificial lamb.

Ahhh, a common target, Rubio.

Rubio is just what the Establishment on both sides would love.

They both grabbed the star-struck 'Kid' and initiated him into their Gang-of-Eight, molded and shaped him to be just like them.

Welcome back from double secret probation! It is most certainly hilarious to see the analysis of David Brooks (SRSLY?!) being used to pump Trump.

Trumpinator, aka Putinator, wants Trump in because he knows he will lie down with Putin and assist him in restoring the Russian empire. Only this time, besides Eastern Europe, it will include positions in the militarily strategic, resource-rich Middle East. That plus their numerous allies throughout leftist Latin America, who they’ve been stepping up their arms transfers in recent years with, plus their increasingly close military alliance with the ChiComs, who they’ve been conducting annual joint war games with since 2005, in obvious preparation for war with us and our NATO allies.

I wonder if David Crease in the Pants Brooks has ever been right about anything. Professional knucklehead serving as the NYT token conservative, and really a token.

This is the stupidest thing every written. Is that why Branstad and his lobbyist son risked their credibility (and lost of all it) to defeat Cruz? Brooks is the essence of blue-blood, elitist GOP. He knows the only thing between Rubio and the nomination is Ted Cruz. And you, as a Trump Troll, know that Trump’s numbers are as high as they’ll ever go. The only way he wins is to split the conservative vote.

What really hurt Trump was the way he treated the well-respected Iowa preacher Bob Vander Plaats.
That was way worse than snubbing the debate.

Nobody jumped from Trump to Rubio based on what Trump said about that guy. That’s what swung the race.

LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!

Yeah, I DO think they are THAT POWERFUL.

Are some of you Cruz people so punch Drunk over a one-delegate lead that you think the GOPe is just like “well that was a good try, let’s go home”?

These people control the process, and they arent going to go away because of some nothing caucus “win”. from a guy that spent a year of his life living there.

Rubio got 3rd on the cheap, and is relatively unscratched in pubic opinion.

So yeah, sit there a laugh like a naive schoolgirl. The DNCe and GOPe are not defeated, they know that the U.S. consists of more than Iowa, sadly unlike most Cruz supporters.

You made up a headline for an unrelated NYT article to continue to push your utterly delusional theory?! That sort of intentionally dishonest behavior can lead to your dismissal from this forum, though that’s not my call.
