Among the many duties of the president, the pardoning of a turkey on Thanksgiving stands as perhaps the most important. It is for that reason that conservative online publication IJ.com invited a few Republican presidential candidates to practice their turkey-pardoning skills, thereby making the case to the American people that they are truly Oval Office material.

Since there’s gonna be turkey on the table anyway, I’d like to see a POTUS actually do the job instead of avoid it.
Not to be a Grinch but I hate these kinds of ceremonies. Pardoning is a sacred power of the presidency and this cheapens it. But people love this kind of stuff.

I know these are serious times and the world is in turmoil but I kind of like the idea of all the candidates having to pass the turkey test. It actually tells you something about them.
I learned that I could not possibly stand to listen to Fiorina. She has an incredibly annoying voice.
Rubio speaks very well even when pardoning a turkey and comes across as personable. He just says nothing. He would actually make a fantastic Press Secretary for the eventual Republican President. As a bonus, he doesn’t get to vote on anything.
Carson comes across as the nicest of the three and is by far the most likeable candidate and did the best job of pardoning the turkey.
We can only imagine what Cruz and Trump would say.
Cruz would most likely point out the great American tradition of turkey pardoning, cite a line or two from past Presidential pardons and make a compelling argument for this individual turkey’s pardon.
Trump: Screw the pardon. Cook him up!
My SIL and I were talking about the turkey pardoning yesterday. We came to the conclusion Donald Trump would pull out his gun and shoot the turkey and then say, “Let’s eat.”
Always wanted to see Sarah Palin take the oath of office then offing her own thanksgiving turkey.
If either one of them says “Screw That, I’m eating this thing” he has my undying gratitude
A few years ago someone here on FR told about the guy who played a joke on his liberal mother-in-law. Or maybe it was a liberal daughter-in-law.
He got a tiny quail and stuck it inside the turkey in the middle of the stuffing. Then he baked the turkey the usual way. Thanksgiving Day, as he is carving up the turkey, he pulls out the little quail and says, “Oh no, the turkey was pregnant!” The daughter-in-law burst into tears. LOL

I’m so glad the MSM is focused on important issues like this and not fluff stories like the U.S. supporting ISIS.

He will donate the bird to a veteran, or 10,000 plus birds to Wounded Warriors.
