While I don’t disagree with your premise, I am concerned that the singular focus of many on the immigration catastrophe has blinded some of us to overlook many of the Donald’ s positions over the years relative to the principles of the conservative movement. I won’t regurgitate the full list, many others have, and will continue to note where Trump is divergent from what we have called for for years.

My biggest concern is that we are going to elect the GOP version of Obummer. I am most concerned about governing via E.O.’s. Will we cheer on our Ceaser after 8 years of his High and Mightiness, and does this portend the end of the Republic, or the beginning of its restoration, it’s hard to tell with Trump.

I am convinced that Trump has even odds of becoming our nominee, I hope he has the guts to unite the party and picks Cruz as his veep, he needs a Constitutionally grounded conservative to put the federal leviathan in check and return power to the states and we the people. Let Ted go nuts in Washington and the Donald set overall policy goals. The veep IS the President of the Senate, after all, let’s see what happens.

I will back Cruz. Barring his nomination, I will pull the lever for Trump and hope. Trump/Cruz would make that much easier.

I agree with every single syllable of that....and in my 2013 book I predicted that the Republican Party and the conservative movement might destroy itself with an internal war over immigration. I said the race to sound the most extreme on deportation would over whelm the much more important issue of immediate border security, and might well guarantee the election of someone and their party who doesn't ever want to secure the border or ever see a single illegal dropped from welfare rolls, etc.

So I fear that happening....and I also am worried about conservatives rallying around someone who never ever says "limited government" or "liberty" and rarely says "Constitution."

You have put into words all my concerns on Trump, mainly that I worry he might resort to EO’s to have success, but that in the long run, it damages the constitutional fabric. I have no problem with the use of EO’s to “undo” anything that the current or past occupants have wrongly done, but I think that new-slate governing should emphasize constitutional strictures.
