UMass-Amherst students are protesting their school's seal, claiming it promotes racism and violence, because it depicts a Native American holding a bow and an arrow.
While the seal does depict an arm holding a sword, protesters have taken issue with the Native American man centered in the logo. The Indian can be seen standing in the center:
"We do live in occupied, colonized land," said student organizer Charlotte Kelly, who called the logo "offensive."
She continued, "This land had been a part of indigenous communities before it became the University of Massachusetts. And for us to be capitalizing and using a Native American figure as our seal seems really hurtful and violent."
Ms. Kelly also had problems with UMass-Amherst's mascot, the Minuteman, because it is a gendered male:
The protesters at UMass-Amherst are also demanding "more recruitment of students of color" and "gender-neutral bathrooms."
When will reasoned minds stand up against this PC madness?
Dear students,

Love,
Me
A seal is hurtful and violent?
Poor snowflake.
About 8 years ago, I visited UMass Amherst with one of my kids. As a MA resident, I could have saved a lot of money by sending my kid there.
We looked over the place, and we listened to the presentations. A large segment was given to students in the UMass Honor College saying how great it was. Some 30% of the school is in the Honor College. One of the qualifications was a combined Verbal/Math SAT of 1200 or 1250 (can’t remember).
I turned to my boy and said, “It sounds like the rest of the college—2/3— is remedial.” He said, “I was thinking the same thing.”
He went somewhere else.
At a certain point I begin to ask myself if this is not just an elaborate put-on to see how much free stuff they can get before someone actually gets pushed too far.
Wipe them out.
Wipe them all out.
Heard that somewhere.
Liked it.
Very much.
>>This land had been a part of indigenous communities before it became the University of Massachusetts.
Burn your school down little SJW!! Burn it!! Now! Return the land to the noble Native American so they can rebuild the wonderful center of higher learning they had before the white man showed up and forced them to pretend that they were stone age tribesmen.
those idiots need to Get a life.
I demand that all idiots be banned from this country. (opps, Guess that makes me an idiot too. Damn!)
Boot their ungrateful snotty little asses out of school for disruptive behavior. I double dog dare ya.
The question is, why, if she is unhappy, why hasn’t Charlotte Kelley left?
I blame the professors for not giving them enough work to keep them busy.
I always understood the Indian was Chief Massasoit.
I didn’t know gender neutral bathrooms were that important.
I did see one up in Vancouver on Saturday in a newly remodeled sports bar. They had one large unisex bathroom, numerous private stalls and no outer door. The sink area was in full view of the outer room.
I was actually impressed with how it was designed, once I got over the shock of nearly colliding with a guy when I walked in.
Your question is a micoaggression rooted in Caucasian patriarchal bigotry...
To me the seal honors the Indian. I must be crazy.
Did these students suddenly become aware of the seal, or are they just suddenly offended by it?
Our universities have been like one festering boil of liberalism and now the puss is coming to a head.
But since the majority of students on college campi are now females, that correlates with increasing fascism we see in academia. Yeah, I know...correlation is not causation.
But how many of the nervous Nellies instigating trouble on colleges are females? It seems like quite a few. I would bet most female students and professors in college are rabid feminists. Time to separate the sexes?
Native Americans probably don't care, based on their reactions to other depictions of them.
