I like to go to original sources. The video is Carson speaking about the offer to West Point. So everyone can judge his statement themselves.

If I had made the statement that he made and I was exaggerating the truth as he clearly was I would have felt I had misrepresented myself and had lied. I would never have done so because in so doing I would have put myself in an untenable situation. Do you think this is the only situation he has misrepresented? What leverage would he give to America’s enemies by his lack of intellectual integrity?

The Presidency of the United States is not a prize to be given out for niceness or reparations. It is a serious and awesome responsibility. It is hard sometimes to find the right person to hold that trust and this winnowing is a necessary part of the process. Niceness is dangerous because it allows people to hide their flaws and exposes the country to electing a leader who will not put America first.

I see no evidence that he was exaggerating.
