"Sell unfixed ones in Kansas. No checks.'

Here in Louisiana the biennial inspection consists of making sure the parking brake, wipers, turn signals and lights work, and that the windshield is not cracked. Meet those requirements, pay $20 and you're deemed roadworthy for another two years.

I had misremembered. It was a Mercedes and it was earlier, in the mid 60’s. Long before cell phones and it happened on a lonely stretch of road. As we approached a town he backed off and disappeared.

Judging a modern diesel by those 50 years ago is like judging today’s PCs by one you bought in 1987. Even diesel itself has changed.

I am sure that is true but scary memories are hard to erase . MrD had a diesel pick up truck more recently than that and it was only slightly better.

Why are US NOx regulations for diesel cars significantly stricter than those of Europe, particularly for Diesel cars 2014 and before?

Do US lives matter more than European lives?

Or is there something else going on here?

Is it that the EPA wants to force Diesels cars out of existence, in favor of “greener” alternatives, like hybrid, EV, or public transportation?

Trucks built for pulling trailers are not performance cars either.

Diesel does not mean slow.
